I remember it. I was 13. The Grand National was unbelievable because of the height of the fences and TV commentary as they handed over to each other. The Irish guy was best although I don't recall his name.

Ditto....I was about the same age.

Michael O'Heir, the Irish guy whom commentated on the pile up on the BBC commentary, was a legend.

Any one remember this one or actually was watching from the stands in the dreary rain. Found a clip that may bring back some memories. I had my money on Red Alligator a year to early I must say. I hope you enjoy it.

Red Alligator was trained not far from where I now live. There's a pub that bears his name.(Awesome food served there) Sadly Denys Smith's yard is a housing estate.

...I posted this recently on the Dead Thread following the death of Foinavens jockey, Johnny Buckingham. It was an amazing pile up and the legacy is the fence is now called Foinaven. I'm an annual visitor to the Grand National meeting, it is a fabulous occasion these days but I was only 10 when Foinaven won.

Thanks Eggs I will go back and check that out. I went for a few years after the pileup. Took the old Ribble bus with my Grandad he loved playing the horses happy times.

...lovely memories for you, Mike. The facilities are very good these days as is the three days of top quality horse racing. Your old Grandad would be delighted with how the meeting has evolved.
