….fantastic reference material @ManxBrian many thanks for sharing some of your collection.

I have other photos of Dean which purport to be goals but they do not tally with the description of the goal in the match report, one example is Dean heading into the net yet the match report states he scores from a penalty

…there has to be anomalies in reporting with communications and media being what it was back then, but I suppose that’s part of the challenge in unravelling it.

…not sure if there are copyright issues but have you thought of publishing your work, seems such a valuable reference to catalogue (just like Steve Zocek’s accounts)?

I have written several for my own satisfaction (not for publication) and once sent a copy to Bill Kenwright who was very flattering and offered to help publish it. I explained to him there would be definitely be copyright issues with all my photos which come from old scrap books that didn't get lost in various downsizing house moves, visits to Liverpool Library with my camera, subscription to British Newspapers and constant trawling of the internet. Much of what is written in them is plaguerised from the Post and Echo reports with a slight twist.
I started comprehensive scrap books of match reports and photos in 1963 through to the mid/late 70s when I "emigrated" to the Isle of Man but sadly many were subsequently lost and when I divorced I started to try to recreate them

I remember my grandad telling me about dixie that when Everton had a corner he would jump blindside of the ref
Clench his fist at the side of his temple and punch the ball in what a legend
