Saturday December 6th 1975. Football League Division 1. Everton 3 Ipswich Town 3 attendance 24,601. Brian Talbot started his comeback in midfield after breaking his leg in a League Cup tie at Leeds in September. Everton had Ipswich old boy Bryan Hamilton making his home debut after his £40,000 transfer. Everton went ahead after 4 minutes 35 seconds, Beattie held Hamilton back on the edge of the box & Bernard floated a free kick into the goalmouth where Cooper under pressure from Latchford failed to gather & the ball dropped kindly for Dobson to touch over the line from close range. Ipswich had a strong case that Cooper had been obstructed by Latchford but the referee pointed firmly to the centre spot. On 28 minutes Everton doubled their lead Jones found his way past Burley on the left and his centre was flicked on by Telfer across the face of goal & Latchford scored from close range. Hamilton had a 15 yard sizzling volley go just wide before Ipswich pulled a goal back on 39 minutes. Whymark did well to intercept a back pass by Clements & calmly rolled the ball to Lambert to score with a 1st time angled drive from some 20 yards. On the hour Everton made it 3-1, Mills fouled Jones wide on the right & Darracott's free kick was touched on by Hamilton to Dobson who netted from almost 30 yards out. Cooper looked a little late going down but the ball flew through a rut of players & he may have been unsighted. Lawson dived to the foot of the post to hold a Beattie header. With 7 minutes to go Town pulled a goal back when Johnson glanced a header home from a cross from the left. 3 minutes later on 86 minutes Town levelled the ball rebounded clear from a shot by Johnson & Woods & Gates latched onto the rebound & Wood's shot was deflected sharply past his own keeper Lawson by Clements for an own goal.
