Old Everton Pictures

You think so Joe?
I don't think sharpe got the love he deserved.
I recall shouts of lead boots many a time.
Just my opinion but Bob was the greatest.
Although when he left it felt the time was right, but toshack got Bob to loose a few pounds and he done well at Swansea.

…..Sharp is probably the greatest back-to-goal player I have ever seen. Amazing technique. I spoke to a lad who marked him and said you couldn’t see passes played into him and his headers were ridiculously accurate.

Lineker said he didn’t realise how exceptional he was until playing alongside. Gray, Heath, Cottee et al know how good he was. Different type to Latchford and a key part of arguably our most successful ever team.

I know this should probably be on the Everton videos page, but I've always loved this moment when he came back with Swansea and scored in front of the street end and the respect between big Bob and the fans(approx 11 mins into the video). Strange to see him wearing a number 11 shirt though!

…wow, a few old teammates of mine in that Swansea team, thanks for posting.

Yes he did - I think Bingham was too quick to sell Joe Royle to City who went on with them to win things, the Latchford Royle combination was never really tried out 10 games or so .... The adulation for Sharp came well afterwards I agree look at him now job for life as the clubs' ambassador - There were that many players who won most things in that 1980s team adulation was shared around a wee bit ...

Bob scored were ever he went even at Swansea as you point out - the adulation came well deserved when he got those 30 goals in one season a great feat - plus we had been overshadowed by the other lot for such a long time - he was a class goalscorer .....

The most adulated no 9 at Goodison by a long way was the GV - who admitted he was so inconsistent, hated Catterick - while his partner in crime Roy Vernon was really the master plus manipulated Catterick.....

The fans however absolutely adored Alex Young as on his day was superb, they simply forgot his off days .......

The Latch was a natural Goalscorer with lesser players around him at times Bingham's ultra defensive football did not suit him, yet we nearly won the league & should have Carlisle rock bottom beat us 5-0 aggregate Home & Away - those 4 points would have landed us the title -

It was only when Gordon Lee signed Dave Thomas he became a goal machine - what a combination ..... he really deserved like others to bag a trophy or two in that era - as it was a very good side ......

Ironical, HK was player manager in that game as he was part exchange to fetch the Latch to Goodison with Archie Styles plus cash ....

Not pics but some class statements of old.. popped up on FB feed

"Of course I am excited to get home to my family and friends and team-mates in LA, but although I've only been here a short time I feel like this is my family too. There is something magical which captures you when you walk into Goodison and it doesn't let you go"
Landon Donovan, EFC

"I think this football club is one of the best around. It is a proper football club."
Ian Holloway

"Blues versus Reds is humility versus arrogance; loyalty versus entitlement; and art versus pornography."
Dr David France

"Everton are, in essence, the most prominent opposition to the growing short-term culture in the game."
Premier League Owl

"In the summer of 1974, I got the phone call from the manager to say a club had come in for me. As I sat in his car I asked, “Is it Everton?” to which he said, “Yes — how did you know that?” and I replied, “You've got the road directions for Liverpool on the seat!” I just hoped it was Everton and not the other lot!"
Jim Pearson, EFC

“Without doubt, he (William Ralph Dean) is the greatest centre-forward the world will ever see. He belongs in the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Rembrandt and Shakespeare.”
Bill Shankly March 1980

“I’d break every bone in my body for any club I play for but I’d die for Everton”
Dave Hickson, EFC

“I was running back to the centre circle after I scored the second goal against Liverpool and pure elation welled up inside me. I remember thinking: ‘I just love this place – I want this place forever’.” Alan Ball.
