plays for a Serbian side named Jagodina

huh

Pato, Kerlon, Adriano, Nii Lamptey, Benjamin Lauth, Bojan Djordjic, Collins John, Savio Nsereko, Andres D'Alessandro, Martin Bengtsson (weird story), Michael Mancienne, Michael Branch, Michael Johnson (!), Carlos Alberto (he scored a goal in a Champions League final).

Great thread btw. My list is getting longer.

Mohammed Kallon, Nicola Ventola, Dawid Janczyk (propably biggest waste in a history of polish footie), Marek Citko, Johan Vonlanthen (youngest scorer in history of European Championships), Mateja Kezman, Keirrison, Kevin Anin, Javier Portillo, Cicinho,

The only problem with naming almost everyone of those, is that they've been successful in some degree.

Take Kallon, if i'm not mistaken, was on the books of Inter then had Heart trouble, not many teams are gonna take a gamble on an insurance risk from Africa. He's possible regarded as the best footballer to ever come out of Sierra Leone, and is basically worshipped in his nation.

Nicola Ventola, actually had moderate success with Atalanta, and again, is highly regarded in Bergamo.

Mateja Kezman, was never really going to make it was he? But in his case, he still managed to win Leagues in Holland, England and Turkey (and somewhere funky like Belarus), as well as play in La Liga and Ligue 1 also, i'd say he's alright, he didn't actually ever sign for anyone for 'big' money either wasn't £6m the highest?

That Vonlanthen was always going to be a poor footballer, it was kind of like when we had Nick Chadwick on our books, and was scoring at a young age, easy to put high hopes on a youngster, especially in the time when everyone was trying to create the 'new Rooney', Vonlanthen, having just used Wiki for my source, still got 40 caps for Switzerland, although, he may be one to file in the 'How the hell did that happen?' section along with Colin Kazim-Richards, who's somehow fluked a career with Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Toulouse and Olympiacos, along with 35 caps for Turkey, and he's absolutely woeful

But...where are they all playing now?

...Freddie Sears was a disappointment for the Hammers, suspect he's in Brentford reserves now.

The next Rooney now plays for Colchester. Zavon Hines, who broke through around the same time, now plays for Dagenham & Redbridge. The most successful of the three who were the trio of next big things is probably Stanislas who is at Bournemouth now.

I think that just shows how poor West Ham were at the time.
