Whats wrong with it. It is a great video showing kids reactions to getting one of those 'sought-after' gifts. I was the same way when I was a kid....money was tight and me and me brother asked for a NES and we got a Mega Drive. Cue hysterical fits.

I have to agree with Bruce here. I see far too many kids under the age of 5 with DS's and other such toys.

Gordon Ramsay has millions but he gives his kids one present per year. Granted its a pretty decent present, but at least they are not overwhelmed with stuff they don't need just to match a capitalistic way of life.

It's the reactions though isn't it. Are kids really so driven by marketing these days? Fair enough get excited and that, but "omg, omg I got a wii, I got a [Poor language removed] wii, my life is complete, omg omg omg *passes out*" scares the poop out of me.

i don't care what the reason is, as long as you've left the dark side.

I agree mate. consumer madness. the old expression 'keeping up with the Joneses' used to apply to adults which was bad enough but this..
Tend to consider the extremes as wrong in general. weather it's soviet style communism or kids giving their parents a dirty look if the trabs they get for their birthday/christmas aren't trendy enough.

my kids got a wii for christmas, and the reason ? cos thats what they asked for and it means we can play games together, they have ds lites as well which are lifesavers on long journeys and the like. they dont have their faces constantly buried in their ds' and dont sit playing endlessly.
my eldest (9) would have liked a lot of things that her friends got LAST xmas, such as laptops, flashy mobiles. she may get a laptop next xmas as tbh i do think she's a bit young and it wouldnt get used so much at the moment.

ramsey, 1 present......i suspect that that is because he is a 'kin tight arsed tw@. happy to exploit capitalism with his books, dvd's, e-books, cooking equipment etc but wont allow it's tentacles to encroach on his back yard. hypocrite. sorry f'in hypocrite.

the must have this year for kids around my daughters age is i-pod touch, following mp3 players / ipods 2 years ago. so now they sit playing with their ipod touch all day, never looking up from it, any members like to endorse these as different from a ds or the like ?

Its no different to when we where kids. Back then, there wasnt DS, WII and Ipods, but im fairly sure our parents got exploited. I was into Action Man in a big way and every Christmas i would get lots of Action Man stuff. I would spend most of the day playing with it, so its no different in my eyes to my kids playing with the lastest gadgets.

Also im fairly sure my children are gaining more playing games on a WII or a DS then i ever did pushing my ActionMan Tank around allday.

I disagree with the Ramsay thing. He is in a business with his father-in-law and he creates good things with his books, programmes and restaurants. The reason he gives his kids one present for Christmas is so they learn to appreciate what they get. I'm sure these kids who got a WII also got a load of other stuff, but probably couldn't give a [Poor language removed] about.

When I was younger one year I got a handed down subutteo set, folks had fallen on hard times and it was a cheap option for me, but I loved it.

On a side note I find it pretty worrying that we are forced to use a £100+ toy to keep a child quiet. I think it just makes it worse in the long run.

thing is ghost the likes of ramsey and all the other chefs have also exploited the kids market too. kids got some ready steady cook thing a couple of years ago, it contained "ingredients" more akin to a chemistry set tbh, there were enough additives to use the thing a couple of times then refils have to be bought or the toy was useless.
and for the f'in ds there is ths

Just like the contestants on the TV show, players must master all aspects of cooking: preparation, cooking and service
Chef Ramsay watches your every move and judges you as you progress – yelling, praising or shutting down the kitchen if your skills don’t meet his expectations.

whats your [Poor language removed] highscore, as it's 12+ i'm guessing he'll not be holding back much when he adjudicates the scores.
he's a tosser, just get them 1 gift.......mine!!!

Our Harry gets far too much for xmas,as did his mum and before that me,the wife as a child was a different story her mum had 5 children and her husband pissed off.which is why I think the wife and her sisters are so xmas mad they all really get in to it(y)me? I was a spoilt brat when I think back:lol:

I don't agree with you there. He's not a bad person and has made many people very happy.

You also have to understand that these products are not the brainchild of Gordon Ramsay, but of Ramsay Holdings - which is a corporate business that has many members who make decisions, not just Gordon.

i'm pretty certain he'll have had input and endorsed it ghost, and Ramsey Holdings would be all about capitalism imo. i dont like the guy tbh so will round on him no prob, i also dont like oliverwanker but the things he did regarding school dinners has to be commended. ramsey used to play for Glasgow Rangers "not many people dont know that" and i'm sure he wouldve been happy to take a out of shirts bearing his name had he not got injured (been good enough).

another example of kids not getting a free ride is bill gates who has famously told his kids that they wont get a dime from him when he pops his clogs, any praise for him ?

two-faced'ism it seems is all part of the capitalist dream, my kids as i said got a wii, but the examples on the video couldve been replaced with my kids and some of their cheaper stuff, one of the best reactions was to a pair of hi-vis leg warmers that my daughter had asked for, she got something she had asked for and was made up.
whereas i got mrs b.o.g. a mountain bike costing much more and didnt get anywhere near the same reaction, i'll be honest i'm having to think again before i go out and get her those expensive saucepans for her birthday....the ungrateful cow.

for every yin theres a yan, for every opinion theres a counter opinion, i dont always disagree with peoples opinions when it may appear that way, i am sometimes just pointing out the other sides views, i think this has come about as i have become more tolerant of others and their views.
but 1 thing i wont be changed on is...........
Gordon Ramsey is a [Poor language removed]' ******** and i wish he'd end up serving tea in a layby, with 5 michelin f'kin tyres to his name (part worns at that).

Why do you not like him? What has he done to you?
