No new signings before the season kicks off (possibly) according to Moyes

David Moyes has enjoyed the tour of America but was disappointed not to have taken more players out to the States with him, and isn't 100% sure that he will see new faces in before the start of the season.

“It’s been a good tour but the one disappointment is that I don’t have some more people here with me,” said Moyes. “I was hoping to have added to the squad by now and brought a few in to give the players a lift.

“It’s not just a new face we need - it’s new faces. My big concern is that anybody we bring in now probably won’t be ready to start the Premier League season. It’s now getting to the stage where you are wondering how long it takes for new players to settle, etc.

“I’m hoping we will have some in (before the start of the season) but I’m not going to turn around and say I am totally confident because you never know what happens. But, yes, I am hoping that we will end up getting a few in.”



This is worrying. It seems one day we hear one thing like 'were hoping to sign 5 or 6 player', then the next day 'I'm hoping we'll get a few in, but might not be before the start of the season, and even if it is they wont be ready'.

I'm not wanting to be alarmist, but I find this a bit contradictory to other comments made and has me worried!

Not really that sensationalist as I put the 'possibly' bit in but I see where your coming from

Actually I was just smoking the caffine in the same pipe as my crack so that could be where i'm going wrong :blink:

I just didn't like the line "I’m hoping we will have some in (before the start of the season) but I’m not going to turn around and say I am totally confident". That for me sounds like even Moyes aint sure of getting people in, and certainly not the numbers he wants.

There seems to be some weird game going on at the club where were either totaly broke and dont want to admit it, or we have loads of cash and are just trying to drive the hardest bargain possible with clubs to reduce the fee. If its the latter then its a risky game and hasn't really worked too well so far.

Id swap Yobo for Jags but thats just me! Has anyone else thought about Lescott at DM, hes a born sweeper, and whats a DM but a sweeper who playes in front of the back four instead of behind!

So would I but Yobo's a bit behind in terms of fitness so Jags might get the nod for a few games. Either one would do me, there's not much difference in my opinion, both very good centre halfes.

A big no too Lescott playing defensive mid. I wouldn't mind Rodwell in there for a few games, can't say I'm that convinced about Gosling.

Maybe Arteta will play centre mid, Moyes used him there against Colarado which suprised me and he used Golsing wide right.

TX - Arteta said the other day that he see's himself as more of a central midfielder and hoped Moyes might use him more there this season so you could be on to something there. Personally with a 5 man midfield i'd be very happy for Arteta to play the 'Manny/Osman' role.

I seen the interview, I also would be happy to see him fill in whilst Moutinho isn't here. He's perfectly capable and has the ability to control a game in the middle. His best position is in the middle to be honest.

We might need him in the middle against Blackburn, someone who can keep hold of it and help the youngsters.

I think it would only work if we played the 5 accross the middle. In a 4 man midfield I dont think it would work very well.

Isn't it weird though how the club come out one day and lift all our spirits with a 'dont worry we've got money, loads of it and it will be spent' kind of comment, and then a few days later Moyes says 'he's hopefull but not convinced he'll get some players in'. Seems like the club keep lifting our spirits for Moyes to dampen them, only to build them up again a few days later, then dampen them again. Personally reading it again I think this latest comment is an attempt to put pressure on the board to pull their fingers out and get some deals finalised as were running out of time. He's pretty good at using the media to apply pressure to the board, or using the players to do it but getting them to come out with statements about squad depth etc.

the problem may be resolved and turn out mind blowingly good , but in doesnt change the fact that the club have left themselves drowing in muddy waters for a majority of the summer.
there is no denying that things could have and should have been done better.why ?

The only thing I can think of is that were trying to drive a hard bargin. We unsettle a player (like Moutinho), keep him unsettled by offering low bids, until the window is almost closed, then they have to sell him for less as he wants to leave and they are running out of time also to find a replacement. Forcing them to sell for somewhere in between our low bid of £11.8m and their £20m valuation.

Manny is probably costing too much (think he even said himself that Valencia's valuation is too high) so were waiting, hooing no one else comes in for him and valencia decide to flog him off for cheap as they need the cash and it gets him off their wage bill.

Topal & M'bia are probs in the same category too.

I'm hoping this is whats happening as its the only relatively good reason I can think of.

in a very weird sort of way baines cahill and vaughan will all be like new signings aswell as they have been out so long......i suppose gosling and rodwell too.

Jagielka can't play in midfield, Neville is better than him in there. Rodwell is better than them both centrally.

Vaughan is suspended, Cahill is definatly out and I very much doubt Van der Meyde will make it.
