David Moyes won't make any decision on Steven Pienaar's future until the end of the season.

The South African's impressive performances of late have lead to suggestions that his loan move could be made permanent in the January transfer window.
Moyes admitted he has been pleased by the impact of Pienaar, on a season long loan from Borussia Dortmund, but won't act until next summer.

"We have got him for the year and we hope that he can carry on as he has been doing. We won’t be doing anything soon," said the manager.

“We will get to the end of the year and when his loan is finished we will look at things then.”

Pienaar has turned in some eye-catching performances in Everton's free-flowing midfield.

“Steven has been really impressive in the last six weeks,” Moyes continued. “He has played really well and we have been pleased with what he has contributed to the team. He is a very good footballer.

“He takes the ball and creates chances but I also like the work ethic that he has too. He’s getting better and better and has helped us improve with his play. He, like the other midfielders, is right on top of his game.

“We need it that way, though. When Mikel Arteta was injured at Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, we struggled a bit but hopefully everything will be okay for tomorrow. They are all good players and are helping us play a certain way."

Makes perfect sense if we have an agreed fee for him.

it doesnt really matter when we buy him tbh...

and i think Moyes might even be putting it off to see if he can get any other players instead, depending on what trophies we have won or positional status in the premier league...

didnt Moyes say something similar about Howard last season though? im not sure...

I think it is to motivate Pienaar. If the loan deal had the option to buy at the end of it, there is no rush on Moyes' end. However, I would like to see him bought right now.

With his bit about the team struggling when Arteta was out I think he's trying to get Pienaar onto the same level as Arteta.

was that meant to be slightly icy? i hope im not seeing to far into things but i'd like pienaar to be his own player, not a potential replacement for arteta.

If it was it wasn't intentional. I took it to read that Moyes thought we struggled creatively when Arteta was out with injury and that he'd like Pienaar to get to a level where we have two players in midfield of that quality.

I think Bruce has it about right, it may also have something to do with cash flow for potential purchases, why lay out now if that money can help you but someone else in Jan:blink:

If we have the option to buy at the end of the loan spell then there is no need to rush things through in January.
On the other hand, if he keeps playing like he is until May his value will increase so it might be better buisness wise to make it permanent in Jan.

I've got a headache now!

Maybe it is mind games. If Moyes comes out and says that we are going to buy him in January then other teams that have been alerted to his potential may start a bidding war with his owning club. If we say we will not be looking to settle it before the summer then other clubs will re-direct their attentions till the summer whilst we are quietly actually going to be signing him in January or at least getting the deal lined up with the required agreements. Just a thought. We did something similar with Tim Howard as was mentioned earlier by Dom.

a move in january might be seen as showing our cards too early and our haste could jack the price up. moyes is shrewd, i reckon he has a price in his mind now and is looking to realize (that looks sp to me) it in the summer.
