I was a teenager when we were champions twice in the 1980s and it felt ridiculously good. The media used to talk about "Liverpool & Everton" in the reverent tones now reserved for City & United. But the era was ruined by two things:
1. The European ban
2. Losing the FA Cup final two years in a row.
The European one I have never gotten over. Try to understand, we were actually widely tipped to win the European Cup before Heysel happened. All over Europe, fans and experts thought we were the best club side on the planet at that time. So I had a lingering hope that we could one day win the European Cup... until Sky came along and made it possible for Man Utd and other to finally cash in on their global fanbases.

Read my Sig lad, you might have to wait, but when it happens, it'l be all the better. Iv only ever seen us win the FA Cup, I badly crave a trophy
wtf is this all about we won that trophy vs everton chile last year!!!!
i was too young to remember '95 as well, however the game after i realised that i was a toffee we beat soton 7-1. it hsn't got much better since. i think our best chance would be the league cup as no1 else takes any notice of it (except you know who). i would just about accept it if we won that cup, at least it's an entry to europe i suppose
I've known some success since being born. A wee 5mth old babee when we won the cup in 66. Too young to remember the title in 1970. The mid 80's success was great to see. Was in Gwladys Street the day we won the title in 85. So I can't really complain
I was 10 when we won the FA Cup in '95. I was living in Milton Keynes at the time; and being an Evertonian from a poor family, in a middle class Man U supporting town like MK, was taking it's toll on me. Those who didn't support Man Utd, supported either a London club or Liverpool.
I remember listening to us turn Norwich over on the radio. We had lost to them 5-0 earlier in the season; and to beat by that same margin delighted me. The next game I caught was the Quarters v Newcastle. This time on TV. A Dave Watson header settled the game at 1-0. I also watched the Semi-Final. What a game that was. I remember the excitment after we had won; I remember buying 'All Together Now' and listening to it over and over agian. Reliving that Semi. By the time that final arrived, excitment had built to boiling point. I was a nervous wreck for the final; I couldn't sit still. When that goal went in, it was amazing. I was wacthing on TV; and we had some Man Utd fans living next door. I remember banging on the wall furiously! The second half was an ordeal, but we won. The happiness just flowed out of me. The mancs next door played 'What ever will be, will be' we drowned them out with 'all together now'. Afterwards we all had a kick about. I was beaming and felt 10 foot tall. The Kids in School suddenly became alot quieter aswell. That summer we went to many different places for day trips instead of a holiday. Everywhere I went I brought Everton memorobila. It was magic. For the first time I was an Evertonian, and respected for it.
That's what it was like for me.
I was lucky to remember the eighties but I feel really sorry for our young lids, but admire them at the same time.
