If I've got this article correct, Moyes starts by bemoaning our lack of funds to be able to secure a top striker:
“As a manager you’d like someone who gets you 20-30 goals a season, because that means they are scoring virtually every week. But you also want someone who can pop up with the vital goal in the big games. There is a difference between the two types, and ideally you’d want both, but they’re out of reach of most clubs, because of the cost.”

However, he then goes on to say that we already have enough quality at the club and we don't need to sign another forward:
"Both he (Yakubu) and Louis have got the ability, and we don’t necessarily have to go out and look to spend big money on strikers.”

Make your mind up, Davey!

If we get Yak back to his best then we'll be fine.

I think he means that Yak and Saha on their day are good enough to get us 15-20 goals a season which is a good return and we can do well with that from our strikers.

But neither guy are good enough to be a 30 goal a season man with the abilty to turn close fought big games into wins with a little bit of magic when it really counts.

They're good but they aren't quite the world class quality that every team would love.

He needs to sort his system out, replacing Cahill would be a start. Yakubu and Saha are fine, but they need a partner who compliments them. I'm not sure they would compliment eachother and Cahill isn't the man for me either. We need pace and movement now, someone in the mould of James Vaughan. Either that, or a more creative version of Cahill.

I think that could be his most effective position to be honest.

Its the system, you need a couple of midfeilders chipping in with 10 goals a season if you play 1 up front this hasnt happened.

Strangely we have scored more goals this season already then we did the whole of last season - so me thinks maybe other parts of the team need looking at!

On their day happen Yak and saha could pop in loads of goals however am I the only who thinks they have had their day? Saha still has ?s over his fitness to play 90 minutes and Yak seems to me to have suffered from his injury more than we think. Neither in my opinion have great pace, and consistency.

"It’s a fact that it is the goalscorers who cost the big money because it is goals that carry such a premium, and the big clubs can buy the best,” Moyes said.

“We’ve got goalscorers, Yakubu and Louis Saha have made a good contribution, and we also have Cahill and Fellaini who get into double figures.

“There have been times though that we would have liked someone to come along and get us the goal in the big games when it really matters, and maybe that’s cost us a little.

Im not so sure hes talking about a striker here!

I am not convinced he is talking about a Goalkeeper notching up 30+ a season. :D
Regardless, how many strikers in the league this season have hit or will hit 30 prem goals or more? How many managed it last season?

Great post mate. Yak and Saha are well capable of 20 odd goals each per season if we are more creative.

I agree he seems to have the Cahill ability of being at the right place at the right time. Considering how few games he has actually started 5 goals is not a bad return in his first season. He is not lost in the quick paced ball moving that Osman, Arteta, Piennar and Donovan played.

Yak is showing signs that he's coming back, that header against West Ham was top drawer. Cahill seems to only play well when Arteta is in the side imo. So i think he should be a super sub from now on, give Saha and Yak a chance to start a couple games together.
