A knee injury means Everton midfielder Tim Cahill is a doubt for the home game against Newcastle United.
Manager David Moyes says he will make a late decision on whether or not the Australian international is fit enough to face Chris Hughton’s side at Goodison Park on Saturday.
“Tim has a knee problem and we will have to wait on that one,” confirmed the Everton boss. “I will assess it but we’re not quite sure at the moment.”
Meanwhile, skipper Phil Neville is set to return to the squad after three weeks on the sidelines with a foot injury.
The versatile 32-year-old played 90 minutes for the reserves in their 1-0 defeat by West Ham on Tuesday and says he is ready to play if selected.
“I was glad to get 90 minutes under my belt and I'm ready to play,” said Neville.
“It's so important (to play) as you can train as hard as you want but 90 minutes against West Ham, who played a strong team, is like money in the bank."
Neville’s return is a welcome boost for Moyes who is still without midfielder Jack Rodwell and striker Louis Saha.
Rodwell is out for up to three months with an ankle injury sustained in the defeat at Aston Villa, while Saha is likely to be sidelined for a further fortnight with a calf injury picked up while on international duty with France.
