Can someone explain the list to me? I'm going through music from 1980, and I don't get it.

Seems a lot of boss songs...even some boss British songs were left off. Like Queen's 'Another One Bites the Dust' which was their best selling single.

Doesn NME have a slant in their coverage of music?

At that point, its stance was very much post punk, and therefore almost anyone associated with the pre-punk white music scene was persona non grata. Except stuff like David Bowie, Talking Heads, Iggie Pop and Roxy Music because they weren't seen to be "rockist."
