Ray Rice ( beats his girlfriend up, knocks his girlfriend out, domestic violence ) Initial 2 game suspension.

Leonardo Carson ( convicted of kidnapping and burglary involving ex girlfriends sister ) 1 game suspension.

Darrion Scott ( possession of weed, suspicion of assault and malicious punishment of a child. Was caught holding a bag over a child's head and quoted ' We were playing a game and i wanted to see if the child could get the bag off his head himself ) 3 game suspension.

Ben Roethlisberger (2 counts of sexually assault involving 2 seperate women) 4 game suspension.

Tony McDaniel (arrested for battery of his girlfriend) 1 game suspension

Chris Henry (Off season of 2006 was pulled over and during the search, was found in possession of weed, no valid driving license and no insurance. One month later was arrested again for multiple gun charges, including concealment and aggravated assault with a firearm, a violation of a city ordinance after allowing three underage females to consume alcohol. Was pulled over again 6 weeks after and a breathalyzer showed he was over the limit. All this in the space of 2 months) 2 game suspension.

Tom Brady ( He may or may not of been aware that 2 people let some air out of a few footballs ) 4 game suspension

Maybe im missing something here but something doesn't quite add up.

Does this taint Bradys legacy ?

Unless something unusual and wholly unexpected were to be revealed, not damage in the least. He's no doubt a top-5 all-time QB, and he's got both he rings and the stats. @mezzrow will have to help with the older gents, but Brady fits in with these, and deflate gate won't tarnish the conversation:

Joe Montana
Johnny Unitas
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady

These guys are clearly better than:

Dan Marino
Brett Favre
Dan Fouts
and I will include John Elway (although some will fight me on this one)

Yes and no.

To Patriot haters, probably. The fact that the behavior is commonplace* and only results in $25k fines and "don't do it again" notes when other teams/qbs engage in the behavior (Vikings, Panthers) is irrelevant to them. See Jet fans, who put up "Tom Shady" billboards in MA mocking it... these same yobs are oblivious or just don't care that their own franchise just committed a far worse offense and was fined $100k for tampering with Revis impending free agency.

To Pats fans, not at all.

To rational fans, not at all. Is Montana's legacy tainted because Jerry Rice copped to using stick'um? Should Peyton's be tainted by alleged "Noisegate" (Colts piped in excess noise to disrupt opposing team's offenses)?

The situation is a joke. The league is a joke.

And now "probably having knowledge" that a rule was being broken results in a 4 game suspension, 7 figure fine, and a loss of draft picks, I look forward to this being applied across the board on other potential rules violations. It's pathetic when someone is better off gobbling up PEDs and punching out a woman on video tape than maybe knowing something was going on and refusing to surrender his cell phone to a league that was intentionally leaking info as part of their witch hunt.

The funniest thing of all of this is the creation of http://yourteamcheats.com/ where everyone's documented sins are laid bare.

* - there are numerous QBs who have gone on records about this. Rodgers told Simms he prefers to overinflate his. Brad Johnson has stated he paid some $7500 to scuff the balls prior to the Bucs smashing the Raiders back in 2002. Jeff Blake, former Jets QB, said everyone does it. Hell, 3 of the Colts 4 balls were also underinflated. Either the MIT atmospheric condition tests were correct or Luck/Indy are cheaters too and also need to get hit with the hammer.

I can't argue with that, but Peyton is short of trophies for this list. That said, would you take Eli over him at each man's peak? It is to laugh.
Peyton never had Tom Coughlin for a head coach. I've seen him at his best up close and personal, and have to add him here anyway, even if he has only one piece of hardware. Manning is the most clinical QB in the history of the game. If you analyze and run a game like Pey-pey, you'll be OK.

Add Sammy Baugh to that list. Staubach? Remember he served several years right out of college due to his Naval Academy commitment.
Hmmm...

Hurts to agree re: Marino, but I must. Elway is one we can fight over. I can't see past my partisanship against Elway to be able to give a balanced evaluation. Must go back to the old school guys who called their own plays. If a coach sent a play in for Unitas at the wrong time, he would call time out and punch the coach out on the sideline. Johnny U brought that kind of mentality to the game.

edit: oh, and Otto Graham. Can't forget Otto. When the Browns were champions. Imagine that.

Amusing "Stuff" Pat Fans Say in the link

Some of my faves...

"It's only May and the Pats are already in F U mode..."

"If Brady is suspended, can he pitch for the Sawx?"

"When the Pats play the Colts next season the point spread is going to be infinity."
"Take the Pats... and the over."

Where would you rate Ken Anderson and Troy Aikman in relation to the others mentioned?
