Next Gen consoles - PS4/Xbox One

As with the PS4 there have been reports of problems with the Xbox One at launch. Not a huge surprise I guess when shipping out so many units of a new technology. Gotta be pretty annoying though if you've been waiting so long to get it out the box and have it being faulty. Fingers crossed my PS4 is ok on arrival!

The whole construction of the machine itself looks shoddy, but as has been pointed out Microsoft aren't by nature a hardware company, so they have less of a grasp on design but should have an advantage on software.

My XBox 360 Elite was terribly designed too. This is the only way I can open the tray.

Hahaha... there goes the first thing i was planning on doing on friday..

PS4 Twitch streaming used as stand-in Chaturbate, Twitch wields ban hammer

Whereas the Xbox One focused on its cable pass-through and voice control, the PS4 focused on social gaming. You can yell at your Xbox One and get it to check what’s on Comedy Central, but with the PS4, you can watch your friend’s streaming game session then take control of it over the internet.

However, there’s an app on the PS4 that displays a large, live feed of whatever the PS Camera is pointed at — The Playroom – and since it’s technically a game, people realized they could stream feeds of themselves. Since this is the internet, some gamers have inevitably created their own little Chaturbate using the PS4, streaming things you wouldn’t want your parents to witness.

For the uninitiated (or really, people who pretend not to know), Chaturbate is a webcam service that features live strip and sex shows where the viewers tip the streamers with a virtual currency that can then be redeemed for real currency. The PS4′s Twitch streaming capability doesn’t allow for a virtual marketplace, but it does allow you to easily stream whatever you happen to be doing in front of the PS Camera.

Not all of the non-gaming streams are what you’d expect though, as two gamers hosted a live call-in talk show. However, one stream reportedly showed a married couple drinking until they passed out, but the husband waking up and stripping the wife naked on the stream. Another stream reportedly showed a person in a horse-head mask performing an act on a woman of which Vince Vaughn’s character in Wedding Crashers would be proud.

As time goes on and more people realize they can stream themselves using The Playroom, we’ll likely hear about more nefarious acts being broadcast. The problem here, though, isn’t really that those acts will be broadcast — that goes hand-in-hand with the capability to stream a live feed over the internet — but that this specific iteration of it will be tied to the PS4, Sony, and mainly video games in general.

It’s no secret that certain uninformed news outlets tend to blame video games for acts of depravity. The next time something wicked is streamed using the PS4 and those news outlets get wind of it, we’ll all have to deal with a storm of controversial negative press focused on video games yet again.

Twitch has been banning the offending accounts, but the easy solution on Twitch and Sony’s part is to simply remove The Playroom from being allowed on stream. Granted, self-censorship is unfortunate — especially when the software is currently the only one that really shows off the PS Camera’s features — but that’s perhaps better than a news storm

Had the One since launch and think its fantastic in all honesty.

Only problem is the game updates time of downloads but then again, that's probably due to my internet connection.

All the games I've played look absolutely brilliant, a lot better than the 360.

The Kinect is sound as well, I thought it was going to be really gimmicky but its a nice feature and its easy to see why they included it.

No offence but after spending all that you would say that!

I pre-ordered my Ps4 from Tesco in Widnes. Got told today that they won't be selling them at 12.00am on Friday morning. They said probably won't go on sale til atleast 10.00am on Friday morning. I pre-ordered mine on 19th August too and saying that probably won't receive mine til a week before x-mas. Gutted I am.

I think the media went a little silly with the PS4 faults and I'll say the same now with the One. It's one thing if as many fail as 360's did (if you had five mates with a 360 you'd be lucky if one didn't get a red ring at some point) but this gen so far neither side seems that bad in terms of bricking units. I don't think that aspect (on either side) should factor into any decisions (unless it gets way worse).

So I got the PS4 on launch here in N. America, hooked it up ... then sat down to play some ... GTA on my PS3. I have maybe 10 hours to go on GTA (plus giving online a try) ... and then my PS3 dies. It got one look at the PS4 and killed itself.

So now I am trying to determine if I go through all the effort of trying to fix the PS3 to play a little GTA and Last of Us. I guess I will but super annoying to have that hassle when I was two weeks away from packing the PS3 up and moving onto the 4.

Just been down to Game to pre-pay for my PS4 and the games I'm getting with it. Got the extra 2 year cover as well just in case. I've had a ps3 for 4 years and a 360 elite for 5, and had no problems with either, but with being a launch one I think its worth the cover just in case

They say software sells hardware, and its completely true, because at the moment there's nothing on either system that really makes me go "holy sh1t, I gotta have this in my living room."

i think both platforms look very good, just that developers need some time to really learn them and to exploit the extra oomph they provide before we really see some spectacular system-selling killer apps.

Depends what you like really...

I only really know about the xbox side, but Forza motorsport is a phenomenal looking game, which leverages some of the new tech in really interesting ways.

NBA 2K14 is absolutely stunning visually, and as with the other games in the series, pretty much the pinnacle of the genre (although not hard when NBA Live is your only competition).

Finally, the sheer number of zombies on screen in Dead Rising 3 is utterly absurd.

But if your tastes aren't covered by those 3, then might be best waiting til the new year when Titanfall and Watch_Dogs come out, because my GOD those two look good.

Titanfall looks pretty cool, but Destiny is the one I am watching out for......

Forza 5 looks only marginally better than Forza 4. Not exactly a "holy sh!t" app.
Admit NBA looks great, but its a US sports game.. (like NFL) that is unlikely to sell systems outside of the US, and any franchise that gets yearly updates is hardly a killer app.
Most reviewers say that Dead Rising 3 is mediocre at best.

Agree that Titanfall and Watchdogs look like they could be the games that will make many jump off the fence. In particular Titanfall captures the imagination, hopefully they can get the execution right.
