What a brilliant cock-up. A knee-jerk reaction to sack Koeman after Arsenal. He hadn't lost the players (there was no performance bounce on leaving, which is the classic sign). So he basically takes one on behalf of the Transfer Team.

They hadn't been anticipating such an eventuality, hence nobody lined up and nobody seemingly even in mind. Then they realise the options are all unavailable or unedifying or uninspiring (or a mix).

And then we end up with Unsworth basically steering the same ship Koeman left but with less of an idea where it was all going.

So the question becomes: would we rather have just had Koeman until Jan, at which point he signs a striker and we cruise towards the sunny uplands of 11th; or Unsworth with a squad he hasn't assembled, still in need of a striker, and the players in limbo?

If the board is only concerned about the next few months we're a club going nowhere. You can't just plan for the current season in PL football.

If Koeman was still the manager against Watford it would have been very toxic towards him which would have not helped the team, we would have lost that game for sure, because Klasson, martina Williams etc would have also played

Would strongly suspect Sigurdsen,Klassen and Martina were Koeman signings.All have been brutal .Koeman wanted ready to play proven premiership players for his project.He also seemed to have last say in every signing.

Very interesting article by ex valencia player who said koeman not capable of rebuilding a team.

Anyway we are where we are but need a new manager.Like Unsworth but he has had 4 games and if watford had shut up shop and goalie not getting injured i hate to think of abuse the rhino would be getting

What sort of club hierarchy sacks its manager and then fails to install either a caretaker manager for the season or a new manager - but just fades away into the background for weeks on end with no contact with its supporters?

This lot are outdoing even themselves with this managerial no-show.

Someone passed on what was said by a guy whose been itk at Sunderland in the past with Allardyce (i believe) about 4 days ago past saying we had initially talked to both via their shared agent but the agents demands and prior terrible/crooked reputation meant we pulled out and won't negotiate with him again.

No reason to doubt the bloke saying it, and since that time the odds on both have been steadily drifting out at an increasing rate, makes me inclined to think he knows what he was talking about.

Take out the matches against the "Top Six", and the record reads 10 points from 6 games - won 3 drawn 1 lost 2 goals for 7 goals against 7.

Southampton, who finished 8th last season, have 13 points from 11 games, but have only played Man United (0-1) of the "Top Six".

At the halfway stage of 19 games, I expect Everton to be at least 3/4 points ahead of Southampton and probably 8th or 9th.

We've been dire and shouldn't be anywhere near 15th. Performances a disgrace and we shouldn't be comparing ourselves with no marks like Southampton.

Board takes some blame, as does Walsh but so too does koeman, and ultimately he was a justified sacking.

Unsworth essentially is doing a similarly bad job with the same set of players though. If two managers can produce equally poor results and performances then the blame has to be on the squad itself. Now we have some great players in that squad so the chemistry isn't there , which is down to the people in charge of buying the right players. That would be Walsh kenwright and elstone.

The fact of the matter is if the transfer committee had not brought 4 of the same player in and perhaps signed a striker and defender, would koeman have struggled as much as he did? Granted the team performance was poor but that was because he wanted possession football and had no attack as a result of the summer. So if there were no strikers for the possession to play up to and he felt he was forced to then what could he have done differently?

And when you look at unsworth so far, he played a high old line against a speed counter team before completely ripping it up at half time, and started a must win cup game with a midfielder up front. Even Sunday we were dead and buried if it wasn't for niasse (story of the season so far) although I confess I didn't watch to pinpoint as to why.

Common factors here , the squad is playing poorly no matter who is manager it seems which is down to the board and the transfer committee. Same as the board being crap and kenwright as chairman isn't unconnected either

The comments by Joe Royle on the official site today may be significant.
I expect that Bill Kenwright would listen to and be influenced by the opinion of Joe Royle , but maybe Moshiri may not to the same extent. Joe Royle certainly would appear to be a supporter of Unsworth.

I think that if there is any chance of a really high profile coming to the club at some future date then we could see David Unsworth and John Ebbrell staying in charge until the summer.
I the chances of Dyche or Allyrdyce coming are slim now. I think we will see in the next couple of days if there is any substance to the Silva rumours and I don't think they can be discounted.
Of course the elephant in the room here is what input,if any, Steve Walsh has in all of this.

Steve Walsh will be getting his Marching orders I would think so he won’t have any input .

I have a weird feeling we are waiting on the final World Cup Qualifiers incase a international manager comes available.

We haven't got a hope in hell of attracting anyone like simeone here , I'm sorry but we aren't getting these managers. It's essentially mata/witsel type of stories when we end up with bolasie and Valencia.

So personally I'm not accepting unsworth as temp manager because the plan is to bring in a high profile manager in the summer because it just won't he happening. No good managet in their right mind would take the job. Complete rebuild job a year after one was already done? An impossible task to do that and compete as they would want to. No matter how much money was thrown at them.

That is the other worrying factor here, we need a whole new defence, midfielders sold and bought to play a different way and have at least 2 strikers here for the season. Thst could be another 6-7 players needed between now and September 1st. I can't see it happening , especially without a cash cow to sell to pay for them all.
