Next 5 seasons

Koff settling for 7th because other teams have spent more than us.

We have been showing for years that money isn't a guarantee of anything and that by being good in the transfer market and doing things right on the pitch we can do well for ourselves.

Sure its hard but i ain't just gonna give up and start crying about knifes and gunfights.

I just want our team to do the very best they can because of their ability not their price tags.

Voted yes, not because it is acceptable in itself, but because to a certain extent, what we are doing even now is unsustainable in the long run.

Plenty of "big" clubs with large numbers of supporters, storied histories and plenty of accomplishments have gone down and stayed down. We could very, very easily become another tragic example of how the modern game has passed clubs by.

Are there enough Citeh Type owners around though to get ? cos that's now the sum needed, the other type pile debt on just like we have but on a far larger scale. If you get top 4 then if you haven't got the squad to compete then is there any point being in being in CL ? You don't get much if you go out early, and it could cost you more in just padding out the squad. The other nations take Europa seriously but letting CL teams into the 1/4 finals isn't on as most times they take the main prize that the others have had a fair slog for.

So prize money skirts a fine line with being able to compete.

I want us better than 7th though, a return to 'best of the rest' would be better. I don't know that getting 4th would be that beneficial to us unless whoever it is that likes to joist with Mansour decides to rock into town. There'll be some fella that he'll have beaten in a powerboat race or won his Lambo in a game of Backgammon that loves to take him on, now just who is that fella ?
Send Elstone out there on his bike.

7th for the next 5 seasons are you having a laugh!? We are Everton FFS and shouldnt settle for that, if (and it is a big IF) we had started the season the way we had finished the last few months we would have been top 5 there is no debying that. The players have proven that they are good enough, however they have to overcome this bottle it mentality at the biggest of arenas ie Wembley just look at the comeback at OT!

Anyway, as far as I am concerned staying 7th is not an option, Cups have to be an option and the thought of scraping into the Europa with a threadbare squad is unthinkable as all the qualifying rounds would kill the lot of them. It is however all done to the coin as usual and I dont see why the current board cant put their hands in theyre pockets and invest £50m to get us into the Champions League and make some real money. I do believe with Moyesy canny eye for a player it is not a pipe dream and should be feasible. The board could even just put £25m together and flog rodwell for £20-25m and sorted give them their money back when We qualify for the CL it is a gamble that should be taken.

Otherwise cal Rocky and get him to get Jo in FFS 7th!

It's a dilemma. It seems like an easy one to bat away: why would anyone accept 7th for the next five seasons? Of course, it's the context that's important. We have a moribund board of directors who can offer us precisely fcuk all and a manager who offsets their retardation by getting consistently top half finishes but doesn't have the smarts to do better than that. Theres an equilibrium of sorts there, so I'm not surprised that many would accept the proposition. I also actually believe now that the club's status as a hard working, tough to beat and durable outfit is enough for most. There's a prestige to it and it gives people just enough satisfaction to put up with the lack of success.

If I'd posted this poll just three years ago, though, it'd have been laughed out of the forum.

Good post that mate.
I voted No, but if you'd said 5th or 6th on a regular basis with a cup win thrown in I'd have taken that. Without any major investment that's realistically the highest we can aim for.

Our squad is good enough that we just need a bit of investment to add 3 or so more quality players, as opposed to a complete clear out a la citeh.

Therefore we just need to have financial stability, so that we can put in bids if we are interested in signing a player and not have to be a selling club.

One question I would like to ask however, is how come Rangers announce they need new owners and in the space of a month they get several interested parties and I think now they have actually got someone, and there appears to be no-one at all for us? That surely confirms there are plenty of interested buyers out there. Im fairly sure I know the answer which is that kenwright isn't really looking to sell...but surely potential interest would be reported in the media?

If you could be guaranteed 7th place in the league for the next five seasons, with no domestic cup wins, but playing a bit better footy and the odd Derby win thrown in, would you accept that?

I challenge your premise. Define "accept" please. If some undefinable level of accomplishment is not met (thanks for defining a level here) then what will your response be? Become a frontrunner? Stop following the footy?

It is what it is, with Everton. It's like being married, you know. If this is unacceptable, does one get a divorce? Would you have divorced Villa by now?

Let's talk about what this is really about. We can all carry some utopian vision of what we want to see and wank each other raw building the picture for each other and admiring the view. Fact is, when the glorious it comes (if it does) it will almost certainly come in a manner and from a set of events nothing like our personal shadow box of wishes. I enjoy this for what it is, but then I didn't declare myself blue when I was still on the dummy as many of those here have done. My keister is not parked in L4.

Everton football has been a joy to watch these past few weeks with one glaring exception that will not be named here. I'm just going to enjoy what is, and hope that somebody at least lets the club hang on to what it has right now, with a couple of shots at some talent in the summer. Moylez does some shopping - we get the Jelly, we get the Bily. The good and the bad - it's all part of the deal. I guess I'm saying it's acceptable - I loves me my Everton, and I don't want a divorce.

I think a few key players (i.e. Donovan, Pienaar, Dempsey, whoever has a pulse and can play a bit...) could put us in a position to seriously challenge for top four or five. We just need to have a good start and build on it.

*I said this in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Would I take 7th every season? Of course, that's a fairly decent place to sit in a competitive league with the off field financial problems we have.

Would I accept 7th every season? No way, we're Everton ffs, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. If you accept mediocrity, you're already beaten.

With having a season ticket back in the Wally years and fearing for both the club as a business and our premier league status, I'd honestly just take 7th and the odd europe over the horrible dread I felt back then.

Nope. But mainly because I would then be accepting that there will be no changes in the boardroom. If William Kenwright remains in control I'd probably accept just staying the PL.

If David Moyes leaves this club while the present board are there we may well be fcuked. I firmly believe that.

No, we should always be aiming higher or whats the point at all. having the resources to do anything about it is a different story.
