Nah, that 90's side was good, regardless of them blowing the League

There are other teams people venerate even though they didn't win anything
How did they throw it away! At least the rs have now got them beaten in the how-to-throw-away-a-title-winning-lead-by-bottling-it stakes so that's some comfort.

Keegan lost the mental battle to Ferguson basically

That and United had Cantona, who led them to something like 7 1-0 wins in a row whilst Newcastle dropped points

Very similar to how City clinched it actually

Did Tino Asprilla also unsettle them as well? Anyway, long ago now. I'm going to guess at 92-93 season? 95-96 says the internet. Over 20 years ago. Yikes. Time passes quickly.

Joe Royle, dogs of war era. Before the barren wastelands of Walter Smith even. Long long ago.

Its a shame he ended his career up there, Ive always considered him to be a legend of the game and well respected by most football fans. To me he is Fulham and Ipswich, but Newcastle put a statue up of him because he was bigger then they are.
Yeah they kind of "claimed" him in death didn't they?
Well he was their manager and also a local man so I understand that one.

What a terrible situation this club is in , actually feel sorry for the fans up there.

Why is it in a terrible situation? They’re absolutely sound financially, relegations don’t matter to them because they can afford to spend enough required to assemble the best squad in the Championship to come straight back every time.

They are as secure as can be, certainly more than more or less every other club their size. Ashley should be celebrated really because a lot of their fans keep demanding a 2000s Leeds-style spending spree which would leave them crippled. Unfortunately they’ve forgotten where they stand in the football world though.

As much as I get having a chuckle at The Mags getting rinsed by Ashley every year, this is one issue where I think partisanship could perhaps be put to one side

People like Ashley are an illness that has infected football. In all honesty, I support the Newcastle fans on this one

I send my support to them. Get that fat hunk of crap out of our game Geordies. Run him off to pastures greener!
