But then if you don't buy it it defeats your point of collecting revenue...

No it doesn't, because some people will like it and buy it.

There's no point in anybody moaning about the club introducing three, four or sixty kits. They're not forcing you to buy any of them, and one of them is guaranteed to be worn at least 19 times a season.

I love some of our 3rd kits. Was the cream one a 3rd kit? My favourite Everton shirt right there.

Who actually buys 3 Everton shirts a year?

I got the home and away last year because they were boss, I wouldn't normally bother because they are overpriced for what they are.

So the point is having a 3rd kit is actually likely to be reducing the number of purchases of the 1st and 2nd kits which in turn reduces the initial club purchase volume (there's discounts in higher numbers as a usual rule of thumb ) hence pushing the price up for little/no extra profit because the increased cost would go to the supplier rather than the retailer.

So the question still remains why do we have a 3rd kit when everyone in the supply chain loses out apart from the manufacturer?

Can you imagine the uproar if they didn't? There's already a load over the lack of kids/women's shirts, that would be nothing compared to if male fans couldn't go out and buy a third strip.

I'm pretty sure clubs wouldn't do it if it wasn't financially beneficial.
