Spiders can't read Flash very well. That's a pretty big reason for not designing an entire site in it. By all means include a chat module or whatever but building an entire site in it isn't a good idea.

Yeah spot on.

Flash should be used in addition at most.

I know virtually nothing about modern web design but I do understand that flash is just an annoying gimmick. I reckon the majority of Nick's clients will be savvy enough to recognise that also.

I used to market Flash products so should really defend the old girl. It is tremendously useful, remember that YouTube videos are displayed using Flash, but as an application rather than a website. Things like BBC iPlayer are done using Flash and for uses such as streaming it is fantastic. Likewise for things like games or chat rooms, just not for entire sites.

Well a site I am working on now used Flash as a gimmick, they also put in meta tags like "Flash Templates", just keywords to get them up the rankings, even though they have nothing to do with Flash Templates.

Mr Miyagi said it best when he described the grape and do Karate or no do Karate. Do Karate Yes, Do Karate No, Do it ok and "squish", just like grape.

I even had a request the other day for a Flash Intro, I turned it down promptly.

We use the best tools for the job. Flash is the best tool for delivering rich content, movie style experiences. But for your every day website it is not so good.

Yeah, mainly what Bruce said in his first post. Can't decide if i prefer the design to your current one or not. The new look definatly feels like something else, not sure what tho. Either way its better than anything I could come up with!

Also agree in Flash, it has its uses but building a whole site in it is not one of them.

i don't know most of the specifics about it, but i know that many professional websites do this. its possible to configure your site to detect the user-agent of the person visiting the site, and display the page accordingly. so if you wanted to, you could configure a flash page configured to show up on safari, firefox, and internet explorer (based on the user-agent), and a basic page that displays in all other cases.
