New Everton Stadium Discussion

Watching the Palace v Arsenal game last night just re-inforces to me that having 60k as opposed to 53k is a secondary issue.

What we need is a stadium with atmosphere. Loud, raucous, intimidating. One where the fans actually have decent chants/songs that they know the words to and belt out at the top of their voices. Selhurst Park seems to have the best atmosphere in the league and that's an absolute dump with a capacity of, what, <30,000? It's because their fans decided to make it into the best atmosphere.

Look at Fenerbahce or Galatasaray. Modern stadiums with similar or smaller capacity than BMD. Incredible venues.

It's not the number of seats we should be focussed on. It's how do we, as a fanbase, turn BMD into an iconic stadium with a world-beating atmosphere?

'It's a Grand Old Team' should be left at Goodison.

Goodison still has the best atmosphere in the PL even now when the fans are up for it.

Selhurst is consistent but it's the same noise every week.

The concern with the new stadium is we lose that impact.

We are talking about atmosphere. When Goodison has it, it is rocking. Unfortunately the atmosphere is often rubbish.

We all love it when Goodison is rocking, but when people criticise when the atmosphere isn’t good, people get all defensive and say ‘thats not Everton’ or ‘singing is kopite behaviour’ or a new one ‘we don’t want to become jarg ultras’.
Aye it’s possible to have sound atmospheres when it matters without being jarg ultras mate. It doesn’t work forcing this type of stuff on Evertonians, they just don’t like this kind of stuff.

Ultras don't impact the game though. They sing the same songs at the same times every week and that's it.

There's more to atmosphere than singing songs and choreography.

Palace's local rivals are Millwall who'd laugh at Palace ultras. Millwall fans at the Den can impact the game, Palace's don't, it's all for show.

It worked against Leeds. There was a week long campaign to get colours/flags/voices out in force.

We are arguing two sides of the same coin tbf. My original point was about creating a great atmosphere consistently at BMD. It doesn’t have to be 60,000 to be the best stadium in the country if we consistently create a cauldron of noise.

We're a simple lot really. Give us 100% and we'll give it back and then some. They turn up half arsed and go through the motions and we'll very quickly let them know what we think.

I wish we could do stuff that would invoke a bear pit more often but as you’ll know being a blue we’re a peculiar bunch. Leeds same as Newcastle was scale of the game as much as initiative. Good luck with your cause though mate.
