Neville said: “The Tottenham thing didn’t get close because Everton said ‘no’ and I respected that decision.

“It was an unbelievable honour to be wanted by [manager] Harry Redknapp and a club like *Tottenham, but it was also an *unbelievable honour that David Moyes [the Everton boss] was never going to let me go.

“I could have kicked off about it – and many players would have – but that’s not my style.

“I have principles – I have had them throughout my career – and loyalty is perhaps the biggest of those principles.

“I know that other players would have put in a transfer request or thrown their toys out of their pram, but that was never going to happen with me.

You can call it naïve. I’d like to think I am clever and sensible because putting in transfer *requests, demanding this and that, only works short-term.

Thoughts?

I think it could - actually, not could, but should have been worded much better.

Thanks Phil, for not kicking off. Like you said, others would have done. You'd be naïve to want to remain at Everton. We owe you mate.

I'm with you Danny.

He's making it sound like we're Tranmere and they're Barca.

What a horrible berk he is.

I appreciate him as a cog in the machine, but he will never be a favourite of mine - not because he's Manc, but because he's a poor footballer.

The feller's the biggest self publicist since Richard Gough.

He'll be talking about himself in the third person soon.

"Leave a club in dire straits? That's NOT what Phil Neville does. Phil Neville could not look himself in the mirror if he did that".

I know you're the master of pointing, but the door's this way Phil.....

Here's a question - is he the most unpopular Everton captain ever? Because I can't think of many worse.

Davie Weir was sensational, for example.

He could have been doing this in the Champions League. Thank the Lord the Pointmeister chose us.

"Phil Neville does NOT point for any club other than Everton - period" - Phil Neville (13/2/11)

He has said he'd have left if Moyes didn't reject the offer;
The Tottenham thing didn’t get close because Everton said ‘no’

He has said he had the right to kick off and demand a move.
I could have kicked off about it

He said other players would have demanded a move.
I could have kicked off about it - and many players would have. I know that other players would have put in a transfer request or thrown their toys out of their pram

He then off his own bat, implied it would be naïve to not want to move from Everton.
“You can call it naïve. I’d like to think I am clever and sensible"

That, from a Club captain. That, from Phil Neville.

Richard Gough is my most unpopular captain EVER.

He actually did give post match interviews in the third person; "Yes that's right, Goughie just tried to help youngsters like Richard Dunne and Michael Ball in today's game, giving them an example of how to create time and space to operate in. If Richard Gough can help bring on young talent like this then I'm glad to lend a hand. If that get's Goughie another man of the match award, he's honoured".
