Netherlands piloting women to play men's football

Hypothetical but... If women were able to play for men's teams, can men play for women's teams?

Would that make it fair?
That's a good point but surely common sense says no. There will be a tiny minority of woman that are capable and/or want to give it a go in the mens league, no need to ruin the women's game.
It's not like the womens game has equal pay or even close so there is no reason for a male to go the other way.

Maybe a bang average league 2 striker fancies going to score 40 goals a season in the woman’s league if the money was right.

its stupid to even consider it, what’s wrong with men’s football and woman’s football as it is??

Because you can't call a woman a woman and a man a man anymore.

Sick man, i mean individual you are, labels and all labels are bad.

I'm not reading all this because that likely wouldn't go well for any of us.

That said now that I have ventured in, I can't leave without throwing in my opinion.

Obviously most women would not fair well in the upper echelons of football (it's genetics), but to assume outright that no woman ever could manage in any of the teams in top 4-5 leagues in the world is ridiculous. I don't think folks are suggesting they'd dominate a game or be an automatic starter for CL level teams, but put in a shift/bench player for a bottom half of the table team... not so far-fetched.

To deny anyone even the possibility of a chance based on the assumption that they can't do it is prejudicial.

No standards should be lowered, no quotas imposed, but it is most athlete's goal/desire to push and test themselves to the absolute limits and the highest levels. If a person has the talent, skills and drive, they shouldn't be denied a chance.
This is all fair. It’s one of those things where I’ll believe it when I see it, but I see no reason why they can’t at least be given the opportunity. As long as they don’t have to enforce standards or quotas as you mentioned, it’s fine by me.

I don’t think all of the concerns mentioned are invalid though. Anything can turn into a circus at any point in today’s culture.

Why does everything have to be politically correct these days?

You watch a game of womens football then watch a PL game and compare the physical intensity of the two.

Put the best womens football team in the world against the Best mens and they'll get smoked.

Thats not sexist thats reality.

Same way the best female boxer would get pummelled over 12 rounds by Anthony Joshua hence why they dont mix gender.

Its a complete physical mismatch its nothing to do with "skill".

BJJ is probably the one phsyical competition where the gender gap isnt "that" bigger and thats because BJJ was designed for physically smaller people to defend themselves against bigger opponents.
I don't think they are going to make it compulsory. There are currently no women that would get a game for a premier league team, but I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of the top female players were good enough to play for a lower league team.

Well that would have to be the case.

Do you think Man City would sign a few female players and risk losing out on the title?

Or any of the top 6 risking out on CL qualification?

Or midtable clubs fighting to avoid relegation?

Or clubs fighting for promotion?

There literally wouldn't be any other way than quotas which is why it makes it even more of a daft idea.
You seem to be missing a key point. IT WILL NOT BE COMPULSORY TO HAVE A WOMAN IN YOUR TEAM.

The first woman to be at an elite level club is going to draw in a load of sponsorship deals, at which point for financial gain one may decide even though the talent isn't at that level it makes it a worthwhile exercise. Then you may get other clubs seeing the success of player zero, they too follow suit.

Do you trust owners and boards not to take advantage? A well meaning rule change can easily cause damage to the game, look at VAR for starters. Say City have overspent getting a few of the top players in over a period of time and can't fix it with their nepotism sponsorship. By building such a good team they can afford to plonk in the female Tom Davies and still be at the top. FFP totally satisfied as suddenly their sponsorship deals go through the roof and integrity goes out of the window.

This is still secondary to me in all of this. The players well being is first and you are likely to have such a size differential that someone is going to get hurt. That is not good for the player who has the injury or the player who made the challenge that caused it.

And how realistic do you think that scenario is? Any situation can have an extreme scenario applied to it to make it seem like a bad idea, but let's face it, what you propose is just not going to happen is it.

Why not. Once football started being played amid this pandemic. Football with no fans. The game is changing. If they were good enough then yes I'm for it.

But where is the equality in that? If men want to play in the women’s league why can’t they? Has to be an even playing field.

As I say big can of worms for me.

I do think mixed gender sports will be a thing at some point but not at the expense of our current systems, I think a new association will be formed for this type of thing.
Using that same logic, Nevile Southall should be allowed to play in the under 15s. After all, equality innit.
