A new pilot scheme that will allow amateur women to play in a senior men's team in the Netherlands has been approved by the Dutch Football Association.

The KNVB has given permission for one woman - 19-year-old Elle Fokkema - to join fourth-tier VV Foarut for the 2020-21 season.

The pilot could lead to regulations amended permanently to allow more women to play 'category A' men's football.

"The KNVB stands for diversity and equality," the organisation's head of development Art Langeler said.

"We believe that there should be room for everyone in every way in football."

A welcome move in my eyes. If a woman is as good as a man then really what's the difference in them playing in the men's sport?

Would anyone be arsed what gender our striker was 10 years from now if they were banging 30 goals a season in?

You can't really call it a men's game anymore with all the play acting.

Imagine the shoving and groping at corners.
Shudder!!

I coached a girls team at secondary school 20 years ago and 6 of them would have walked into the boys team (u17) I also coached at the sane time if the all knowing FA had a clue how to run a sport.

When you consider the likes if Dave Usworth and Pat Nevin could play in the same side with their widely different physiques, there's no argument really. If they're good enough they should play- so long as they can put up with the physicality. I would not support rule changes making the game non-contact just to accommodate them.

Utterly stupid idea for both practical and biological reasons but hey so long as it makes us feel so awoke
How so?

The world's best player doesn't rely on size , strength or any physicality. He simply bypasses all of that.

So if a woman could do that just as well as he does, what's the difference?

Just interested in your opinion mate, no wrong answers in a discussion :)

Imagine an average female CB trying to defend against Andy Carroll from a set piece.

Or a female wide player trying to keep up over 90 minutes with someone like Adama Traore or some speed demon.

Then thats not taking into account the uproar in the media if a Roy Keane type player two footed a female opponent.

There is a reason competitive sports are seperated by gender and thats because men are more often than not stronger, faster, bigger.

Its just PC rubbish.

What on earth makes you think a team would put an "average female CB against Andy Carroll".
It's like the old saying about young players playing in a senior league - "if they are good enough then they are old enough". Same would apply to women.

I bet you were against female officials when they started?

Absolutely nothing to do with being PC.

If they are good enough though why should they not be able to? There may be no females that are good enough so it will never matter and it may only be in the lower tiers, but if they are good enough what's the problem?
I'm presuming you are Male and I'm sure Adama Traore would run rings around you for 90 minutes, you think no woman in the world could make a better fist of it?

Why does everything have to be politically correct these days?

You watch a game of womens football then watch a PL game and compare the physical intensity of the two.

Put the best womens football team in the world against the Best mens and they'll get smoked.

Thats not sexist thats reality.

Same way the best female boxer would get pummelled over 12 rounds by Anthony Joshua hence why they dont mix gender.

Its a complete physical mismatch its nothing to do with "skill".

BJJ is probably the one phsyical competition where the gender gap isnt "that" bigger and thats because BJJ was designed for physically smaller people to defend themselves against bigger opponents.

Just silly, start of a slippery slope that will see them eventually bring in quotas because it's a 'mixed' game.

What is so wrong with having a sport that is split by gender? Athletics would be a better example but women wouldn't get near a podium. Things like polo it is fine and understandable but having mixed teams just prevents opportunities to a large portion of women and to they few boys that might be blocked by a woman in a team. Don't get it.

This is a bit wrong way of looking at it imho and unfair on Nevin. To become a professional footballer especially back you would need a lot of steel about you. He may be slight but would be able to handle himself. Same with rugby players, the backs aren't weaklings.

Most professional men would be able to bully a professional female being stronger and faster.

omg state of this lol

OMG, look at the state of this!

You are picking the most extreme examples you can think of.

Much less a case of PC and more a case of misogyny I would suggest.

Mixed gender teams up to a certain age seem to work quite well, many of the top womens players played for boys teams for as long as they could and you can usually tell the ones who did.

I quite like the games the way they are to be honest as I watch womens football a lot as I enjoy its pureness for want of a a better word compered to men's football.

That said if there is a player who is genuinely good enough to play in a mens league then it also feels a bit wrong to not enable them to make the most of their abilities. Just off the top of my head a top quality female striker like Vivienne Miedema at Arsenal could probably get a job in a lower league at least and still earn more than she is on now at Arsenal.

Would never agree with a quota but there may be a once in a lifetime talent that comes along that cant play at the highest standard her skill deserves just because of gender.
