Net Spend

I thought Kone was 5mil + 1mil on clauses which I think we can say he will never reach.

Anichebe im sure was publicised at 6mil....barry they say 2mil in the papers but was not confirmws as he was a free agent.

Also duffy you could then say 1.5mil and besic 2.5mil

Swings and roundabouts. Point being its hardly a huge net spend considering what he was left with and the funds generated.

Undisclosed doesn't just mean you don't count it. Be conservative and say Mcgeady 500k & Joel £1m

Kone was £6m
Barry was £2m

Anichebe was £5m (maximum so for clarity you count Besic as £4m)

That already nearly doubles your figure to £15.5m which then equates to a bigger net spend than the previous 11 years combined.

Robles / alcaraz / kone = disasters but maybe becausehe wanted to fill out the squad as soon as he joined...2 been injured and one a reserve.

Eto was considered a good signing until recently as was barry...possibly both lost their legs now.

Mcgeady is the one that really annoys me...but should make a profit on him if sold.

Other than Kone though all these donkeys are stopgaps.

He's probably signed half of the deadwood, that's the problem.

The way some people harp on he's had 40-50mil in one go and a bottomless pit of wages...

Totally discounting 2 forwards being offloaded and fellaini + an ageing squad.

Players like lukaku and mccarthy dont come cheap and neither will replacements now and summer.

Elstone needs to open the purse strings.

Hold on, I thought he'd spent loads?

Oh, another nonsense rewriting of history then.

If they are stop gaps that's fine. I think they are certainly a better quality stop gap than the deadwood he got rid of. Roberto got rid of every player I wasnt a fan of, so I trust his judgement. The problem is we have a quality squad but are playing worse football than ever.

I think the money is there in January if a bargain comes up. The problem being not many come up in January. I'm hoping for 3 quality loan signings. It gave the squad a great boost last season. How many fresh faces has our first XI seen this year? Besic/Eto'o - both in and out of the team. And Atsu who hasn't done a thing. Fresh faces keep the players guessing about keeping their place in the team.

By now I would have expected him to have signed a few players who are worth more than what we paid. We have James McCarthy who would fall into that bracket by maybe 5 million. But nobody else really.

I'd like to see what he can do with 20-30mil behind him to fill GK / CB / LW positions whilst removing the deadwood to free up wages.

Been the same for Moyes under Kenwright too. Essentially this boards business model is as explained by @Allezfan spend nothing and maintain a challenge somehow.

It's very high risk as it only takes one bad managerial appointment to turn the whole thing to [Poor language removed]. It's why Moyes deserves respect for keeping us competitive while spending next to nothing.

What he was left with was a top 6 squad.

He's wasted ~£10m on Kone, Robles & Alcaraz and that is always going to be a huge amount of money for Everton.

What he was left with was a very old squad which was 'overachieving' and playing a different style of football.

Not sure where your 10mil comes from. Jelavic and anichebe cover kone and the other two are squad fillers.

Hes only actually paid real money for 3 (discojnting mcgeady and robles who were pennies).

He's probably spent a little more net than what you are saying. Probably just over 10 million, but I get your drift.

I like how he has brought younger players to the club. McCarthy, Besic and Lukaku will be important assets to the club. The thinking was right on Robles but he just doesn't look good enough.

I doubt there is pots of money for him to spend though. I suspect we may have to sell Coleman to allow Martinez to continue to spend money.

I think honestly he should have 20-30mil in summer

He could also get rid of dross to open up wages a bit.

Selling coleman is one way to go and you never know he may get someone even better (!!)...I think mirallas will be off myself 15mil simply due to his contract.

I like Martinez, but the squad Martinez inherited was not exactly crippled by age: Howard, Baines, Coleman, Stones, Barkley, Gibson, Jelavic, Naismith, Fellaini, Mirallas, Anichebe, Heittinga were not exactly on the verge of retirement.

And if some of the others were too old, bringing in Kone, Alkaraz, Etoo and Barry is not a great solution..

Also I was repeatedly informed on here that we were not overachieving under Moyes.. And were in fact punching exactly where we should be. This puts Martinez as having a shocking season.. which over achieving or not, seems to be the case.

But this is his second season. I'm not gonna panic just yet, but I wish Martinez would a little.
