...my phone to a laptop via USB simply to charge it but do not even log on to it then can stuff (porn) or viruses be transferred to the computer?

Theoretically it's possible. Anything that stores media can store a virus and USB cables carry data as well as power.

I'd say it's incredibly unlikely though.

Because its the only way I can keep my good yet faulty mobile charged and my mother is convinced I have done something to her work laptop because she received a phonecall from someone claiming to be her network provider saying she had a virus and asking her to go into her files, when she said she would just give it to the IT department they hung up.

Yeah that's obviously a scam. It's going around at the moment. I had a call the other day and just took the piss out of them.

What operating system does your phone run by the way? I'm assuming your laptop is a Windows one?

Yeah its just a basic dell laptop with windows. I dont know any more than that mate as I dont actually log on.

Samsung galaxy s mate, although this brick im currently on is a samsung from a previous generation.

So it uses android then?

Android phones can indeed get viruses. Said viruses wouldn't do anything to a windows pc I don't think, as they're written for entirely different operating systems.

What I'm not sure about is whether or not you can get a windows virus onto your smartphone and have it lay dormant.

I've got to be honest though mate this is all really unlikely stuff at best. I wouldn't worry.

Yeah its an android and i've got anti-virus software on there (AV and another one I cant remember) which havent found anything. Cheers for your help everyone she has been swayed by your words and has now allowed me access, as soon as she retires to bed the world of pornography is once again mine to roam.

Of course you can. No messy disk installation, just plug an play. It's the by far the best system.

Oh, pc, right....errr...well good luck with that.
