2024/25 Nathan Patterson

Given our squad, 3-5-2 makes a lot of sense. Might even generate a chance or two. Should’ve been working on it since summer, but we’ll never see it with Sean.

Pickford

O'Brien/Tark --- Branners --- Myko/Young

Gana/Garner
--- Mangala
Patterson
--------- Tim Iroegbunam --------- McNeil

---------------------------- Ndiaye/Lindstrom/Cherm
DCL/Broja/Beto

We'd probably score more goals with that at a minimum, but probably concede more.

Been left to rot at the club really. All but destroyed the lads development.

Rubbish. No club or individual is going to set out to ruin a players career. Everyone wants Pattos to do well but, as yet, he's not shown any real talent in some 50 appearances. Which is a shame as he seems a genuinely decent lad.

Here's what Patterson CAN do: stand just inside the final third of the pitch wide right and lump 3 or 4 balls into the direction of the box - maybe half get past the first defender.

That's it.

Just that.

He cant hold defensive shape; he cant't get up into attack and then transition back to defence quickly enough without being caught out by a counter; he cant get on the ball and go past opposition players - more especially a FB by taking them on.

All of the above are the reasons why his career has gone nowhere at Everton and will continue to crater.

There is no possibility that situation changes, ever.

Hopefully he had 20 minutes in the shop window yesterday and if the club are prepared to take a big hit on a fee we can end this intolerable situation for player and club alike.

Why don't you like Patterson?

Why so defensive? Insightful and constructive comments are not allowed?

Pattos isn't the best in the transition phase as Dave correctly points out. For an attack minded full back that's a core issue. Probably needs work and attention in a slower paced league. Then it's purely a fitness issue which you'd think is mainly diet and attitude. Pattos didn't turn into a bad player overnight. He seemingly excelled in Scotland under Gerrard in a weaker league so the base elements are there.
