2023/24 Nathan Patterson

Genuinely what did he do to show he's not first choice?

Got POTM according to BBC, generally kept their forwards quiet and nearly got an assist - "not good enough" lol
He got taken on a couple of times in the first half or something (which is something that never happens to any of our other defenders). And considering it was his first start since October, is probably understandable.

It’s tee’d up perfectly as a now or never moment for him. He’s been in and around a PL first team for quite a long while now. If he has anything about him he should be sending Young back over the other side as Myko’s cover and really making Seamus his cover and mentor. I really want him to do it. Thought he would have by now, so doubting a little. I guess badly timed injuries.

Ultimately, you can’t hover on the outskirts of a PL team forever in your early 20’s. He has to show he has the talent and concentration. Branthwaite has done it with style. Holgate and JJK didn’t, and their careers are on a hugely different path.

This thread is insane.
Yes but I find it curiously fascinating!

Branthwaite and Patterson are similar ages and have both played similar minutes for Everton where people have presumably seen them play most often (Jarrad 2296 mins and Nathan 2322 mins according to Transfermarket https://www.transfermarkt.us/jarrad-branthwaite/profil/spieler/661053 and https://www.transfermarkt.us/nathan-patterson/profil/spieler/424015).

Yet several posters seem so certain of the career trajectory of one compared to the other - perhaps we are missing out on in house scout opportunities!

One of the things I like about Patterson is that he can deliver a decent centre.

He was ok at Burnley and was up against one of their best attackers so the odd mistake
was bound to happen but he showed energy and did the job. Much better than Young
and has a much better future than Coleman, both obvious statements but true.
