NASA and the moon

Been watching some programs on Discovery channel all to do with NASA and their trips to the moon. Space has always fascinated me but i have a strange feeling.

On 20th July 1969, humans landed on the moon. They kept landing there for just over 3 years until the last lunar landing on 7th December 1972. Only 12 men ever set foot on the moon. I believe that we did in fact land on the moon and that it was not a conspiracy. But why have we not been back since??? The last landing was 38 years ago. 1n 1972 technology was no where near as advanced as it is now. The first handheld calculator was invented, costing $400, the airbus flew for the first time and Atari kicks off the first generation of video games with the release of their arcade version of Pong. Now, in the 38 years since the last landing, man has come a long way. But why have we not been back to the moon, surely there is more to be learnt?

What are peoples opinions. Did we indeed go to the moon? Is it all to do with money or is it because NASA know that it isnt really possible? Like i said, i believe that we went to the moon and i think that money and H+S are to blame.

Anywhos, here are some pictures that were taken on these missions that are truly amazing.

They didn't go to the moon, its really a big block of cheese.

But seriously, I did a presentation on this thing last year and its quite remarkable that they haven't made more effort to land people on the moon. With the commercialisation of everything that exists these days you'd expect they'd use that place as a money-making carnival lol. If the technology existed in those days, it should be really simple with todays technology to get there. However, it could be because of financial issues, maybe space exploration doesn't get the money or attention that it should? If you look at the US military their technology is beyond what people can imagine and massively improved since the 60's and 70's, but they get huge financial backing.

Whether its a financial issue or not though, I think not only NASA, but other space agencies should have made more effort for a few more trips by now... robots and modules that they send there can bring back all the information in the world, but only a human can bring back the experience of the conditions.

Too many conspiracy theories around this mate. Did they or didnt they? The Russians were pretty close so something had to be staged. Cant have that nasty Hammer & Sickle flag flying on our rock so lets head for Hollywood with 50 tonnes of cat litter and some spot lights to show the world we won the race. Not convinced by any of it. Oh and didnt Aliens warn them off because theyve got something up there too and thats why they stopped going? Its all cracked.

Went to Cape Canaveral in April this year and visited Kennedy Space Centre, the last ever shuttle was also on the pad.

It's a lot of effort to go to just to fool people...

and I saw a live shuttle launch about 10 years ago from Sanford Airport. It looked pretty real then as it dissappeared out of the atmosphere...

Visit NASA if you can. It was a superb experience.

"Here's what you can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defence each year, and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, for ever, in peace....." - Bill Hicks.

Thanks Bill.

There is one simple reason why we (they) have not returned to the moon - it costs a friggin bomb.
NASA gets £18bn a year from the US Government. It would cost an additional £1.8bn per year to send astronauts to a barren floating rock.

Mythbusters did a show that was looking at all the different pictures that were sent back, looking at how they shadows fell etc. They came to the conclusion that they had gone to the moon. NASA let them use there equipment and were very open to help. Now i know that Mythbusters is not gospel but they are pretty good.

Would love to go to NASA as well. Just gotta get to America first, and i cant really afford it at the moment. As for the money, why dont NASA, ESA and the Russians join force and send a "mankind" mission. All can place in a equal amount of money and each have an astronaut on board?

Luke you're missing some of the political issues from the military-industrial complex in the 1970's. STI/Star Wars and the development of the space shuttle.

Did you know as part of the deal with congress with funding the Space Shuttle (can't go to the moon) that they had to destroy. YES destroy the plans of the Saturn rockets used in the late 1960's and early 70's moon landings.

Its only with the development of the Aries rocket system and the now defunct Constellation programme that the US would have moon or mars capability.

Much of the focus was on the profitable lift of satellites and the commercial and military sectors since the 1970's.

Infact the US is now focused on expanding the commericalisation of space in order to fund its exploration programmes (Obama administration).

* wiki the individual rocket and lift programmes if you want (y)

I met Neil Armstrong about 10 or 12 years ago, signed a picture for me, which I only realised very recently I haven't seen in at least 7 or 8 years. The follies of youth.

I'd say they probably did get to the Moon (although about a year ago they did find tapes which showed the Apollo astronauts faking shots, don't know what became of that), and it'd be nice for such a mission to happen again in my lifetime (I'm only 22 though, so I am hopeful!), but I hope the next Moon landing/attempt is done with an eye on Mars.

Basically, thats what they are trying to do with the internation space station. There was an area of Kennedy Space Centre on the bus tour that took us to the unit where they prepare all the modules for the space station, all wearing surgeons attire for ultra clean working conditions...It was a bit "flight of the navigator" but very interesting indeed...

There was a map up showing all the countries involved.

The Chinese and North Koreans are not participating though...as far as i can remember.

I do have a picture of this map at home somewhere...

This is not true.

The moon landing conspirators are all looners. (see what I did there?)

It has been proved many times that NASA went to the moon.

Won't happen until about 2020 I'd say. And Mars by 2030 or even 2040. And by then we might be in the fusion era on earth!... or at least approaching it.
