Naismith 3 year extention

If you could measure which player makes it look like he's doing loads by face gurning and throwing himself to the floor, Naismith would be clear winner.

He actually makes other players' have to work harder than he does with the woeful passes he makes to them (or rather to the opposition).

Him, Barry and Kone are living proof that Martinez is clueless- jobs for the boys.

It's a shame as I want the bold martinez back of 2 years ago, who punted crap like anichebe and jelavic, who was bold and played 2 wingers in a fast and flowing system. Let's face it the current manager we have is a shadow of that manager in every area of the job.

It's Martinez that keeps putting him on the wing

His most success was playing behind the striker in Scotland, and we've never really used him in that role
Hes been used there plenty and imo hes found lacking in that role, he does have the intelligence for it but his feet and ability cant perform what his brain wants him to do. Can barely make a 5 yard pass and has to take a few more touches than whats needed.

From now on if he is to stay and Kones our only recognized back up striker id have naismith as the sub striker

And replace them with who?

You can't cull them all. It's not financially viable

You have to get rid of the worst of them and hope the ones you keep do a job for you. Naismith is more likely of doing that than the others and you know he can be guaranteed to put a shift in

Naismith is probably in my top 5 to 'get a much better version of'.

Might be an unpopular opinion but if he starts games this season I think we'll struggle to create goals, I love the lad but I think he's an impact player off the bench at best.

This.

It's pretty much the yardstick of how well we do this transfer window whether Naismith is a peripheral figure in the first team squad or still playing a major part.

He's proven that he can score goals against top opposition, whether that's the PL, Europe, or international level. To sell him would be daft, what if Lukaku picks up an injury? Can Kone be trusted? Naismith is a good option to have

Still handy coming off the bench I would think, good finisher if a chance pops up he will usually net,I wouldn't be rushing to write him off just yet,we need a squad and I see him as a decent squad player.

I'm no great fan of his, but I think he'd be alright as a nominal "super sub". He has those stretches where he always pops up in the right place, used the right way that could win us a fair number of points.

Anything beyond that appears to be too much.

Reckon naisy is a good option off the bench, and attitude wise great player to have around.

He just shouldn't be near the starting 11.

Problem is he plays in a position we desperately need quality in and is vital for us but he hasnt got much ability so is found wanting.

Maybe as a back up striker hes ok

All of these replies make the same, sensible point: Naismith is a goalscorer.

He's good in the air and he plays at a higher tempo than Kone and Lukaku. IMHO the correct role for him in our squad is as a backup to Rom. No, he shouldn't start - he lacks the all-round attributes we need in a starting XI player. No, he's not a winger or a ten. BUT he's a better goalscorer than Kone, so logically we should be getting rid of Kone first.

I love Naismith but he should be an impact player rather than a starter.

Maybe start him against the likes of Stoke when we need a bit more tenacity in the side.

I'd say he's played half of his games under Martinez either as a forward or just off the striker. He had a purple patch from April through to October, afterwards he was found wanting, not through lack of effort, but through lack of ability.

I like the guy, though. He is a goal scorer, a workhorse and was one of the few palyers who always showed last season, even when he and the rest of the team were playing like idiots.

This was how Martinez used Naismith in the first season, bringing him off the bench when Lukaku wasn't having an impact. It meant Nais was in his best position and Lukaku was kept sharp. Roberto then had his brain transplant over the summer and suddenly thought Lukaku should play every minute of every game regardless of form and that Naismith was actually a magical number -0 and winger. Good backup striker, should be no more than that.
