Naismith 3 year extention

You also need players who can find space, run off the ball and score important goals against stubborn defences.

Naismith has started 12 games as a shadow striker this season and scored 5 goals, including against Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Dynamo Kiev.

Hardly woeful to me.
That is impressive. regardless of what type of player you are

In that position, Naismith and Osman get a lot of criticism because play often breaks down around them. They are players looking to make things happen and need an outlet quickly as they aren't so good at making their own time and space. A lot of the time defenders can read them easily.
Barkley on the other hand can thread the ball through the eye of a needle, turn players and create time and space.
I know who I'd rather watch.

possibly, martinez'z evolution as a manager could be defined by how he uses these players, he has undoubtedly misused his squad this season for me

agreed..... like Naismith, Eto made one or two good cameo appearances and everyone's thinking excellent....we have a decent squad. But no, those admittedly good cameo appearances lead to Bobby shoehorning Eto into the side for the next few months negating the shape and style we had last season to keep a 49 year old veteran happy.

Yeah I reckon he should be a squad player. On the proviso that when he has a good game or scores a couple of goals we don't reorganise our team/style of play to fit him in the starting 11 for five months like we did this season.
I think that was because our squad is lacking quality in depth. We need more quality signings. Not average depth footballers.

I like him, think he's a decent squad play, but surely its no coincidence that the moment he got dropped our performances and results picked up. Then the moment he's back in, over a period of 50/60 minutes we play like idiots.
