Naismith 3 year extention

Don't forget him always being up for a rumble when any opposition "hard man" starts. Has some useful positives does little Steven

He certainly does mate. I think he's lost his way a bit ( probably more to tiredness than anything as for 20 games he's the only one who you could give 7 out of 10 ) the last 5-7 games but he put in the type of shift that let the talented players play their natural creative game.

He is so poor in possession that he makes me cry out for Pembridge.

Energetic and committed. But technically poor. He also screws up the team formation as he is neither good or fast enough to be a no.10 nor to play in a 2 man midfield.
And on the flanks he is pants.

Lets hope Barkley has got his mojo back and ends all debates.

Pretty much this. Don't get me wrong the guy has his uses as a squad player and in certain situations (like when we went down to 10) he did well working hard. But in general me and the boy spent most of last night just laughing at his uselessness in possession. He's so poor and gives away possession so much!! The amount of times he kicks it out of play is comical.

has been, and I choose my word carefully here, very effective for us on that left hand side in the last few weeks.

Yes he has technical limitations but his commitment and energy is infectious. I don't think its a coincidence that Lukaku is harassing defenders when we don't have the ball this season, I'd suggest he's probably seen the standards of Naismith and took them on board.

You can all shoot me down but I'm quite happy with him out there as a starter. I'm not an advocate of 2 wingers in the system we play, it's too predictable and would leave us far too open. until the summer, and hopefully a creative wide player a la Pienaar coming in, I'm more than happy Naismith playing there and putting in a committed shift.

Well played Naisy lad.

Came inside a lot last night, as did Mirallas and it causes issues with a lack of width sometimes but then when you see Mirallas goal it also works. Naismith made some cracking runs and wasn't found. He absolutely roared at Garbutt for not popping him through as well. Played well last night though and I think your right about Lukaku seeing him chase down so follows suit.

Agreed, I think he's been vital recently. Loved it last night when he booted the ball against that bell who was trying to rough him up on the deck! Doesn't take any sh1t does Stevie, he's becoming more and more influential on the pitch recently imo

True this, Roberto needs to think about making him captain. He talks more than most of the rest of the squad, both to players and officials. Its not just his goals and assists that has made Naismith an important player for us this season.

Imagine if, for example, just for the sake of argument, Mirallas was to disobey team orders over, for example, just for the sake of argument, taking a penalty, with Naismith as the captain.

Naismith for captain.

Whatever his limitations, Naismith is just about our most versatile player at the mo. No one else has the role of scoring goals at one end while throwing themselves in front of shots at the other. Plenty to like.
