Ralphie Boy

Player Valuation: £8m
So, driving home from work my sister phones desperate as her husband is working down south and no one to take her son to watch the [Poor language removed] against Swansea, only just got season ticket this year and only man in the family so no pressure.

How the hell do i get out of this? Well when your dad is 92 and very ill and sis spends alot of time their as i am working cant really so no so here goes..........

Walking up to the ground from Utting Ave area I could already feel the cosmopolitan make up of their support, could even hear Manc voices FFS.

Entered the Kop (yawn).

Straight into the stadium and as not driving bought a Carlsberg, in a plastic bottle and as it wasnt Chang was not such a bad experience, just expensive £3.70. £2.70 for a bovril for my nephew, could of bought an Oxo cube for 10p and asked for hot water, all in all their prices are expensive.

So, five minutes to go and out comes the stewards to dish out the flags and then the mother of all flags is passed over everyone, yet another yawn of an experience but suprised how many of their supporters get emotional about a flag and how they have to touch it, bit creepy.

Half time approaches and as was not arsed about game left with 5 to go to the bar, empty, bonus, the tight gets don't pay their own prices so no real queue for another beer.

Now coming to the end of the game and they are 1 down (so wanted to cheer but would probably not be hear to write this if i did, and the ref decides to help them by sending a Swansea player off, bit harsh i thought but not had time to confirm on replay and then 'he' scores and then Lovren gets the winner.

Apparently now he will be the leading goal scorer and all he needed was that first goal?

The Swans very unlucky as [Poor language removed] never looked like scoring but if you defend deep and for long times that is what happens.

Being a Main Stand STH i finally got to sit on a plastic seat so no splinters in my arse but whilst sitting down and people watching it really is amazing how bitter and venomous some of their supporters are, and also the fact that they all sit down in the kop but not when they visit GP.

I think we have a better split of male/female support as well. I am particularly proud of our large female following (and of the ones I saw ours are far prettier)

All in all not such a scary experience, Analfield seems as quiet as GP is at the moment, maybe this is becoming a trend?

Footnote.....

I was the only person in the stadium not supporting a metal badge or a scarf

I went once, boxing day tsunami game against the saints, my brother bought tickets for the family as a present for my dad who supports them. They only thought 40,000 odd people had died in the tsunami while I was at the game, looking around the stadium it was eery to think how many people that was, of course it ended up being more than quarter of a million. Shocking.

Shocking haunting experience all around, I've never forgiven my brother.

I think Chang is better than Carlsberg. Anyway.

Well done on surviving the experience.

The bad, bad flag touching weirdos.

Just imagine it, the horror of sitting there and not in the away end.

I've never got over them turning it around in 2005 and I watched that snuff show on TV!!

I've been 3 or 4 times. Sheffield United each time due to uni connections with people from the city. The first was the last season of the standing Kop and it looked like a painting it was so still and quiet.

My favorite was a few years back when they played United in the LC and it was heading to extra time and i was sat in the home end. This group of about 4 southerners passed me to leave and I said that the game would go into extra time. They looked at each other clueless thinking it was the end of the game and then headed back to their seats. Very knowledgable support at Anfield in their Main Stand. Or tourists.

Wait, the massive flags they're so proud of are handed out by stewards? As in, the whole thing is set up by the club itself??

If true, that's made my day.
