My brother got assaulted on Tuesday night

Just walking home from work, around 10pm, minding his own business and eating a bagel (wasn't on his phone or anything), when three guys saw him from a parallel street, came after him, and jumped on him in an alleyway. They didn't say anything, didn't demand anything, just started punching him in the face; when he hit back, they started smacking his head against an iron railing fence, until they kicked his legs out and then started kicking him on the floor, before finally going into his pocket, grabgin his phone and finally running off.

What kind of scum does that? They weren't drunk, he wasn't drunk, they just wanted to beat someone up- my brother, who is the sweetest, kindest man I know, who has spent the last 3 years bankrupting himself to set up a charity. Sometimes I just don't fathom how people like that walk the earth.

Sorry, had to vent. I'm so upset and angry.

thanks all- he isn't hurt too badly, but was pretty stressful in A&E on Tuesday night making sure he didn't have any brain damage, since they used his head as target practice. @Stupid Giraffe- I'm trying very hard to remember that not everyone is like that, and @RFUS I'm a MASSIVE believer in karma, it's all that's stopping me turning vigilante and going down that street with a baseball bat. Cos I sure as hell know the police don't stand a chance of catching them.

What's even sadder is that 6 different people in the street phoned it in, but not one of them came out to help- and my brother's only comment was that he couldn't blame them, he'd have done the same. That makes me truly sad, that we live in such a world where people not only carry out random violence, but that others are too scared to get involved. (and I don't blame them either, for the record).

I don't want to turn your thread into a row about sentencing but the prisons are full of revolving door minor offenders and the jail terms for violent offenders ridiculously soft. I hope he's ok physically and mentally it hasn't knocked his confidence too much in the long term.

Well these cowards go in packs, don't they? If one guy was wailing on another, especially for no reason, than I suspect and hope people would intervene. But few people have the stones to step in if there's three people.

I don't know what I'd do in that situation.
