My new car has been described as a hearse and a skip! What does the panel think?

Dylan, it is over 20 years old, has had a respray at some time, even if there is only 10k miles on the clock it is still a beat up BMW (Black Man's Wheels) banger.

The salesman must have seen you coming.

Actually, private sale and an astounding 247,477 miles on the clock :o. And the beauty is she is still running strong. The engine will still probably explode in 100 miles though ;)

The missus is car shopping at the moment. She's got her eye on a Lexus IS 200 SE, but i'm trying to put her off - 20 mpg (ish), rearwheel drive and insurance group 12, for feck's sake!

I'm trying to steer her to something more sensible, a Golf maybe, or a Passat. I quite like the look of the new Civic, but have not looked at the specs yet.

So, I'm looking for ideas (she usually picks by colour, so it's just a case of 'it must be black and nothing French or Italian').
