That's the problem right there.
Plenty of artists throughout history have been performers only, recording songs written by other people - Elvis, Sinatra etc...
Bon Iver is so beautiful.

^So much more enjoyable than a song that clearly copies the tune from "Oh My Darling".
That track is pretty good.

I sort of agree. Obviously this was a stupid thing for him to say but you can see where he is coming from.
My hatred for One Direction knows no bounds.
Guilty secret: I actually like One D (as their fans call them

). I mean really like. Wtf is wrong with me!!
Catfood isn't rammed down your throat during the course of everyday life though; pop music is. I also think it's harmful to society - young people aspire to be shallow idiots these days thanks to the celeb culture in the media, actively promoted by Cowell and co. It used to be that you learned an instrument or became really good at singing - nowadays it's how good you look or the best way to act like a t*t and get publicity.
Look at Geordie Shore, Desperate Scousewives etc. - they're popular, they're apparently entertaining, so should we all just be happy to let our kids watch it and have role models like that?
Tbf most of this isn't a recent phenonemem. It's just magnified due to our celebrity centric culture nowadays, but manufactured pop acts who can't play any musical instruments have been around since The Beach Boys.
Right on there mate.
I'll have a proper rant a bit later when I'm at a PC but the thing I hate the absolute most about pop/chart music is the complete disregard for responsibility. I mean just look at Rihanna singing "come on rude boy can you get it up, come on rude boy is you big enough?", her fans are by in large teenage girls and infact my ex told me that her little sister (aged 13) was walking round singing it the other day. Is that right? Far from it in my opinion.
Look at those monstrosities that Cowell has created in JLS and One Direction. JLS, again, have a very large fan base of teenage girls, and yet they have their own range of condoms. Is this right? Is it [Poor language removed]! It's utterly disgraceful that these "stars" will stoop so low just to make money.
Just listen to the lyrics of some of these chart songs and have a think at who they are aimed at and how they are brain washing children. An awful lot of them are about sex/drugs, totally glamorising it. Social networking in my opinion also has an awful lot of blame to carry, and the two go hand in hand, with people "following" their favourite "celebrities", following their every move, looking up to them as role models.
Not a very well constructed rant but there you go. (A lot of) Chart music is evil.
Likewise. You think that morally suspect and sexually inappropriate pop lyrics are anything new? FFS in the 80s Sabrina got away with practically falling out of here bikini in her Boys Boys Boys video. As for the JLS condoms, I actually think that's a good thing. You think young kids/girls don't know about sex?? At least they're out there promoting safe sex, which is a massive issue with teens atm.
I don't mind Cowell.
He is insanely good at what he does. Can't have a go at him for that. And he's a smarmy tit. Like that.
I like him, purely on the basis that he always fights with Louis Walsh, who is about the biggest pr*ck I have ever had the misfortune to witness on tv. I seriously hate that massive bell.
I wasn't convinced buy this thread title if I'm honest, but then I came across this.

Minaj and that Swagger Jagger are awful. Not just 'pop music for kids' bad, but actually terrible terrible music. There's a world of difference between what they put out and decent 'pop' music (like 1D!!

).
Personally I think the charts/pop music are the best they've been since I have followed them, in that, while there is unavoidably some rubbish there, and the stuff that is made for the teenyboppers, there is also a much wider variety of music, and a wider acceptance of different genres which wouldn't have got airtime 10 or 20 years ago. Things like Mumford and Sons etc would never have got played on the radio when I was young.
