Munich - town center, hofbrauhuas, other beer halls (Augustiner Braustuben was my fave) , if not too cold, English Garden.

oh, and the art museums are great as well.

and the (huge) Nymphemburg palace.

These. I was there just after Xmas last year, was beautiful. Went to the Nymphemburg but didn't go in. Lovely gardens to walk around though. Also go to Eisbachwelle at the bottom of the English Gardens if you want to see people surfing in a freezing stream!

If you are into sausages, there's a specialist sausage restaurant near the Frauenkirche, kind of round the back. But you can find sausage stands around the place for an open-air snack as well.

Something you might like to try is the equivalent of a quick mid-morning snack like a sausage roll or a pasty, which is a Fleischkäsesemmel/Leberkässemmel (depending on where you are from). This is like a rectangular block of hot spam with a smooth consistency where they cut off a thick slice, stick it in a roll and put some ketchup or mustard on it. You can also get a roll with hot roast pork and crackling.

If you are into open-air markets, the Viktualienmarkt (in the streets opposite the Town Hall) is one place to go - gets crowded.

If you are looking for nightlife/live music then Schwabing is the university area just to the north of the centre.

Someone mentioned Dachau above (stunning how close it is to the sizeable town with the same name) - if you are interested in those kind of things, people say that the NS Documentation Centre in Munich has a very informative exhibition on Munich and the rise of the right wing. On the list for my next visit. Also interesting is the permanent exhibition about Sophie Scholl and the White Rose movement in the university.

Many museums and art galleries in Munich have €1 entry on Sundays.
