"Moyes' sense of dread in transfer window"

He's Scottish. He gets a sense of dread shelling out more than £1.20 for a bottle of wine, never mind 500k on a utility defender from kyrgistan.
 
To be fair i bet all topflight managers outside the top 4 or 5 dread the window. Your best players can be cherrypicked by the top teams and you don't get a proper chance to replace them unless you pay over the odds.

January can make or break your season. Look at Blackpool and Charlie Adam, the speculation is there and it is bound to get to him. Sell him and they can't replace him, keep him and they have an unhappy player. Holloway in a no win situation.
 

I find this bit staggering:

"We have never really done a great deal of business in January anyway, so maybe it’s not so important for us."

Has every January transfer window been accompanied by the loss of two senior players?

I expect the board to take the piss, but I dont expect Moyes to.

That's Moyes' version of saying "we're screwed".

He's just trumpeted Anichebe on the wide left as I read that, which depresses me so much I think I may reach for the bleach.

And the classic line has come out...

“If we could get [Anichebe] up to a level it could be like a new signing,” he says.

Yay...
 
Forgive me if sheer distance has affected my perceptions, but isn't the January "window" the least favoured opportunity for recruitment? Hence, we never really do a great deal etc...

Usually. But Everton have lost a key player in Pienaar and our only proven goalscorer in Yakubu (Saha is injury prone so can't be relied on), so reinforcements are not just desirable, but arguably necessary in order to definitely avoid relegation. That's still a possibility I'm afraid.
 

I live in hope that this downbeat tone is something of a smokecreen whilst we work quietly behind the scenes to pull some names in. I'd be amazed if Moyes hasn't screamed what we're all thinking at the board so they must know there will be hell to pay if they don't come up with SOMETHING fairly sweet and I think even they know Ricardo Fuller on loan just ain't going to cut it with us. LCAB/THT haven't thrown the towel in yet. When they say "that's it folks - nothing coming in" I'll give up too but until then I'm going to keep the faith. Lets get West Ham out of the way first and take a deep breath for the end of the transfer window. Convinced the names we'll be hearing about in a few days will be a bit tastier than the ones we've been linked with so far. It only takes a couple of big signings elsewhere in the league to push things forward. For example, City will offload. Wherever those players end up means someone else will have to offload... I'm sure we'll be in a cog in the machine somewhere along the line.

Arteta, Fernandes, Jo, Stubbs, we've done some good short term business in January.
 
I must admit, every transfer window I always used to feel that when Moyes said "we can only afford loan signings", a part of me thought it's just a way to keep potential transfer fees down to a minimum, the wily old fox.

Now I realise he was telling the truth all along.

We're screwed aren't we?
