I was astounded to read today that Moyes has admitted that he passed on Demba Ba because he wasn't sure about his fitness.

So, instead we sign Straq and McFadden! It's hard to fathom his logic sometimes. Ba has scored 8 goals in 11 games for Newcastle and would have been a great option for us.

Arsenal were able to structure a deal for Arteta minimising their risk, even though there wasn't time for a medical, so surely we could have structured the agreement to factor that in.

That's what surprised me about what Moyes came out with. Maybe we didn't want him on a long contract with high wages in case he spent most of it injured?

Well that's blue Bill for you, bottom line.

There's so many good, cheap players that were snapped up in the premiership that we had no hope in buying.

The Barcodes have done some superb buiness with Cayabe, Obertan, Ben Arfa and Santon IMO. All of them would waltz into our team.

It does my head in that we bring in players that we'd only ever use as a last resort (Hahnneman, Straq, McFadden..), rather than gambling on someone who could make a real difference to the first team.

How many long term injuries did Arteta have? We would have swapped one risk for another risk on less wages. Demba Ba would always have scored more goals for us than Straq and McFadden combined.

Mikel's injury issues happened later on in his time with us, and he was a known entity to the team when his contracts were renewed. Add to that, we (apparently) had money then.

He looks more stupid though by saying that he could have had one of the Prem's top scorers for nothing, he decided against it AND he'd do the same again.

Yeah he looks stupid, but he can just say, "We looked at it and felt it wasn't right for us, maybe that was wrong, maybe it wasn't". I meant it avoids him having to say, "Actually yes we were in direct competition with Newcastle for him, as usual we came out second financially."
