Moyes own story

I would literally puke in my mouth if he would be appointed.

That will not happend now thank god...maybe if Mosh wouldnt be in charge.

For teams with limited resources or talent Moyes is almost peerless in my opinion. Really was outstanding at getting a lot from a little.

But when asked to get a lot from a lot (i.e once he'd built up a damn good team here, or when given resources at United) he really falls short. I have no idea why Villa didn't go for him earlier on in the season. I reckon Moyes could get a sunday league team to stave off relegation in the Prem.

It's an amazing example really of where it's all gone a bit mince.

There are some seriously mince players on the pitch there but the noise levels are incredible even at 0-1 down. There's a link between bench, management and crowd that just does not currently exist.

Wayne Rooney comes on, embodiment of the childhood dreams for supporters, but with the brilliance to actually do it. The movement and touch for the assist.

Let's then look at us vs Watford. Banners, Cleverley ambles on to play not really anywhere, no one generally seems that bothered, game fizzles out. Swansea / West Brom etc etc.

I'd love to see a return to that level of symbiosis between fans and team - right down to a set of back room staff that go berserk like in this video rather than a barely flinching cold look when we concede at home.

Excellent post mate, so true.

All completely fair, but don't let the blue-tinted spectacles deter you from remembering just how far he fell in the second part of his tenure here.

I never hated Moyes; I was far more disappointed in him by the end than anything. You could tell he'd lost the hunger and passion completely.

When he got the United job, I was flabbergasted and knew he'd fail. A case of people remembering the good at the expense of the bad - and that's a lesson we should learn with Martinez too. 72 points early on doesn't disguise everything abysmal afterwards.

And blow chance after chance to kick on by bottling every big occasion possible. He developed a fantastic side, then failed to kick them on.

Let's not rewrite history eh - I know Martinez is abysmal, but let's not forget how frustratingly dour and limited Moyes became.

I think it was less a fall than hitting a kind of ceiling that was in part psychological: Moyes became so adept at setting up a limited team to perform above themselves that he seemed totally uncomfortable once he could no longer work with that mindset.

This was a problem, but not the biggest issue with Moyes. In reality, he saw his own limitations as being the fault of the club and, even before Utd., would have dropped us in a flash if a wealthier alternative came along. Remember how open he was about the Spurs job after Redknapp left?

Even at the end of his tenure, he still considered himself as a talented young coach who'd paid his dues by taking Everton as far as they could possibly go.

You mean the bit where we didn't sign a first team player for almost 2 years and still finished above every similarly financed club every year?

The poor second half of his time saw us go 5th (plus cup final), 8th, 7th, 7th, 6th.

Yeah, his first real quality side 07-09 was dismantled brutally by injuries and our need to balance the books with player sales. He stomached the loss of top players which would have seen a lot of managers walk then built up another really good side in a short time frame with Gibson Mirallas Naismith Oviedo Jelavic changing the outlook of the first team completely. In his final season we had a very decent team again which was a brilliant achievement given where we'd been a season or two earlier. His mistake was going to United just when the whole league was thrown on its head with the demise of the top 4 and the tv money. Moyes struggled to take the last step in conditions that were stacked against him. Martinez has been unable to even envision a cogent plan when everything has been in his favour. Chalk and cheese as managers.

I think the problem he had at United was attracting the caliber of player he wanted. He had a real chance of getting fabregas and missed out. Felliani was not the right fit but Mata has been a decent player who he signed. He still had a 52% win rate (better than Van Gaal) and only bettered by Ferguson in the past century. He also got them into the quarter final of the champions league. Van Gaal never got past group stage.

I dont like the way he left our club but i also think he should have been given more time when taking over from ferguson.

The time was right for him to go, life is short if you get offered something better you will take it
the only gripe i have was the way he stuck around after he made his decision to leave it was embarrassing and demeaning to the club
as a manager Moyes is a decent manager for a club whose soul ambition is to survive Villa would do well to hire him
