Moyes - is it time to forget 'principle'?

Desaparecido

Player Valuation: £15m
Thinking about Moyes' attitude towards transfers, he has a strong set of principles which govern the way he does business. As far as I can tell Dave likes to get in touch with the manager of player he's interested in and ask if the player is for sale.
Consider what Mark Hughes said - he could have phoned Moyes and asked him if Lescott was for sale and Moyes would have said "No." it would have got him nowhere. But Hughes persists and despite the distaste some on here have for it, he's got a lot closer to getting what he wants and still might.
Perhaps it's been a reason for our poor transfer market performance, most notably last and this summer, that Moyes has these 'prinicples'. I think it's time he forgot about these and goes for it hammer and tongs to get the players he wants. Less 'principle' and more 'Il Principe'?

If you look at the notable dealing which have took forever this year.

Naughton - The deal was as good as done, the Sheff Utd chairman scummed us. Why? 'Cos we didn't offer the same amount of money Spurs did.

&

Senderos - 2 weeks for Arsenal to make a decision (and counting), we'd made our move.

It's not really 'cos of "Dithering Davey" this year imo. Although yeah, he has been slow in the past with transfers.

"...trying to find players who are cheap, don't want much wages and will come here to improve us, well, it is not easy."

Moyes last week.

We had an offer accepted by Sheff Utd. Spurs offered more as they wanted Walker aswell.
We wouldn't not couldn't meet Arsenal's valuation for Senderos, which is not bad thing.
I know you want to twist it at the board but by his own admission it's Moyes who makes the call on transfers.

Exactly - So I don't see how that's classed as Moyes not making a move in the transfer window. He'd done all he could.

I think the money is there.. the question is rather "how much"... or perhaps more accurate.. "How little" it is. With a narrow budget Moyes would be very reluctant to pay more than the first agreed fee since that might have the implication that he won't be able to go for another target.

Moyes has shown before that he often is very unwilling to pay more than his evaluation of a player, and it could be double now because of a very limited transferkitty. If he had a kitty of £30M than a £5M player going for £6M wouldn't be such a big deal, but if he only have £12M it's another story altogether. And I do think a £12M kitty is much more likely than a £30M kitty.
