biyaletdinov , yakubu , beatie , simon davies , richard wright , van der meyde , kroldrup , mcfadden......... obviously its down to opinion but i think every one of them was either a bad buy or flopped or payed over the odds for.

not sure what we payed for that lot but i bet we got a lot less back once they moved on.

Bily - £10m sold for £5m
Yakubu - £11.25m sold for £1.5m
Simon Davies - £3m sold for undisclosed
Richard Wright - £4.5m released on a free
Van Der meyde - £2m released on a free
Kroldrup - £5m sold for peanuts
McFadden - £1.5m sold for £6m

So only one out of 7 made a profit.

well actually ive just checked and mcfadden , although a major flop , cost us 1.25 and we got 6 back so another for mouts list of +'s.

but even with mcfadden taken off my list , its the best part of 50 million spent on flops and less than £15 million back for em ? (these weren't ageing players btw , they depreciated in value in there prime ages pretty much)

so my point is still valid , he has failures just as much as successes.

Should also consider that City paid way over the odds for Lescott and everybody knew it. We also didn't get £10m for Arteta, because a chunk of it was taken by Sociedad.

Lescott 5m = 24m.
Arteta 2.5m = 10m.
Rooney 0 = 30m.

I win.

GG

Thanks for playing.

Even still that's £58m spent & £40.5m recouped. Yep, I've omitted Rooney as Wally had him on the bench & oversaw more of his development than when Moyes came along. & to claim £30m was good business for the greatest talent this club has ever produced is dumb. So there.

to be fair i would guess that a lot of managers have bought players and moved them on at a loss when they were no longer wanted/needed by the club.......by the same token a lot of managers have bought players cheaply and sold them on for profit.......it's football. that's the nature of it.

Yes but there is this myth that Moyes is a genius when it comes to transfers, especially on the cheaper side. That's not really true though. He's had some successes but he's also had some big failures.

How are some people having a go at the transfers?

Johnson 8.6m, sold for 10.5m.
Vellios £200k
Coleman £60k
Arteta, 6 and a half years of quality service and £2m, sold for 10 million aged 29
Tim Cahill 8 years great service £1.5m. Possibly the pick of the lot.
Leighton Baines £6m worth over £25m now.
Tim Howard £2m 6 years great service and worth a lot more than that fee currently.
Landon Donovan, brilliant loan signing. Funds wouldn't permit permanent deal.
Marouane Fellaini £12m (actually paid) now worth £20m easy.
Gibson £500k, great squad player, bargain.
Heitinga £6m, currently probable player of the year, runner up in 2010. Probably worth double that now at least.
Pienaar £2m worth at least 4 times what we sold him for. You can blame him and his agent for the size of the leaving fee.
Phil Jagielka £4m Arsenal were ready to pay £8m on him. Would probably value him in double figures. Even after 5 years.
Nigel Martyn next to nothing. Brilliant buy.
Marcus Bent £450k. Instrumental in 04/05 season. Journeyman. Sold for £2.5m
James McFadden £4.5m profit
Yobo £3.5m, in terms of service, an excellent purchase. 8 years quality service. Was worth double figures to Arse a few years ago.

If we hadn't held on to certain players such as Arteta, Pienaar, Baines, Felli, Jagielka, Yobo, Heitinga, Cahill. Or they hadn't been loyal, we'd have profited big time. Instead we are investing 4/5ths of our revenue in keeping players here for the best part of their careers. Not maximising fees. Just counting fees is ignorant in the extreme. How can you ignore the revenue certain players have undoubtedly brought in over their long careers here? Changing 14ths and 15ths into 5ths, 6ths, 7ths and 8ths is worth huge sums in prize money alone. But forget profit. This is Everton ffs. And you will never convince anyone other than yourselves that Moyes transfer policy has been anything less than exemplary.

Slate tactics all day. But not the transfer policy.

Yeh it was the right decision to rest players.

God forbid they have to play a midweek game aswell as at the weekend. How on earth can professional athletes do that?

Mate you're well unreasonable they aren't paid enough to play more than once a week, should be double salary for midweek games ffs.

Next time I go to work, I'm going to say that I've got a busy day ahead next Monday, so is it OK if I doss about and put my feet on the desk till then?

its nothing to do with transfers moyes put his team out last night an pub team would have played better
swansea,Norwich City, all got a result at anfield this season moyes and his team get their arse handy to them
on a plate their and at home to the RS

Every manager has successes and flops when it comes to transfers.

But as pointed out below your post Moyes has had what appears to be way more successes than most of his peers when it comes to buying cheap and increasing value, turning unknowns and lower league players into top quality Prem players.

I'll always give him full credit, its his strength and has been the main reason for our turnaround under his management.

Of course he has many failures as a manager which will always hold him and any club he is at back.

Moyes is a percentage manager. He's unlikely to have any major success, but he's unlikely to get you relegated. 85% of Premiership teams would love to have him. Sadly, Everton don't have the balls, or, more importantly cash, to aim any higher. For that reason I'm Cheese on Toast.
