David Moyes has hailed Steve Round for the rousing half-time team talk that helped transform Everton's Cup quarter-final against Middlesbrough and secure a first trip to the new Wembley for the Toffees.
Second half goals from Marouane Fellaini and substitute Louis Saha earned a 2-1 win for the Blues, who had trailed at the interval to a David Wheater headed strike.
The Goodison chief has revealed it was assistant boss Round who led the half-time talk - and helped inspire the Blues after their low-key first half performance.
"We're through to the semi-final," Moyes said. "It's further than we've been, but it's not the final and it's not winning it - that's what I'd really like to do.
"I was wondering after the first half what I was going to do, because we know it wasn't the Everton that we have seen in recent times. They needed to be told and were told in no uncertain terms at half time the standards that I have set.
"Steve Round did a great job at half-time, we got them right and got them ready for the second half."
The introduction of Louis Saha in the second half proved to be a key turning point in the game - and Moyes was overjoyed by the impact the French striker made.
"We dropped Tim Cahill deeper in the second. He's been doing so well upfront we've been loathed to move him from there because his goalscoring has been vital.
"At this present time we don't have that many goal scorers in the team. To step him back was a big decision, bringing on Louis wasn't.
"But I didn't want to bring him on too early because of fitness. Today he got 45 minutes and so hopefully he's a lot closer to starting games now."

Interesting.

Just saw this. and my reply is "is right". All the players needed a kick up the backside. Sometime i cant believe how bad we play, even though imo it was the wrong formation we still shouldve done alot better.

Luckily their keeper made a mistake and our own confidence was boosted.

Saha is the real deal. He is light years ahead of Jo in composure and talent. Please or please stay fit. I would love to see him score the winner against his old club. Isn't it great semi-finals at Wembley nothing less than the lads deserve.(y)

Stop hoofing it and giving possession away.

Pass the ball about and play football cause we have the talented players to do so.

Quite simple really.

TBH from everything that's been said everywhere he's been Round is one of the top managerial talents around.

It's too bad he won't be around for long, some championship team will give him a management offer long before Moyes moves on.

Always though he will under study for a season or two and then move on.

Dave wont like that, he hates Round:lol::lol:

I've never said I 'hate' Round. I just never understood what impact he had in the dressing room or on Moyes' thinking, principally because it was never ever mentioned what he brought to the set up by either Moyes or the players. To be fair, I read a report a couple of weeks ago from Anichebe that suggested he's well respected by the squad and now this from Moyes. On the basis of that, it would seem he's not a complete chocolate fireguard.

On the basis of Moyes' comments today it seems like Round did all the half-time work which Moyes should have done himself.

Really, we should have been playing like that from the kick-off.

It might be a combination of him trying to throw Round a bone, but also a way of emphasising it was attitude rather than his own initial selection that was to blame in that first half no show.
