Player Valuation: £50m
When DM came to glorious Goodison Park one of his key objectives was to reduce the average age of the squad. Two good reasons for doing it were a) to move on a few of the stale, old pro's around the Club, and b) so that he could build a team that would be together for a good period of time (clearly noted from his mate SAF).

The additions of Mustaphi, Peterlin, Naughton and Jo (who's still only 21) to the group which already contains Rodwell, Gosling, Fellaini, Vaughan and Baines is a fantastic development, especially when they're mixed in with the likes of Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta, The Jag, Captain Phil, Big Joe Yobo and The Yak. The signing of Naughton and Garbutt hopefully followed by Delph plus Rodwell making the grade, Baines and Gosling shows his astuteness too........buying young ENGLISH talent for when Platini and Co bring in the 3 foreigner rule.

The squad is beginning to have a great look about it - if Moutinho or Defour (or even both if we're really lucky - or if we have cash to spend if the seemingly inevitable but reluctant sale of Lescott goes ahead) sign, then, wow, I really fancy a strong challenge on the Top 4 or a trophy (probably the Europa).

For me, thats much more exciting and refreshing than the way City are doing it.

Naughton hasnt signed and the Plantini rule is unworkable and will never happen.

But if we can sign Naughton plus 2 other players of undoubted quality, the world is our oyster.

Well said, Goat. Naughton hasn't signed. IF Naughton does ink for Everton and Moyes can pull one of Defour/Moutinho/Tuncay, I think everyone would consider the summer transfer window to be an unqualified success.

Depends... if we keep the players we have and don't sell anyone.. then yes.

Why is Platini's agenda "unworkable"? Fifa/Uefa regularly make changes to the regulations that on the face of it are odd, or seemingly not in line with general legislative requiremenst. I guess you are thinking 'freedom of movement' etc.....that would only cover EU countries anyway. Generally, Platini/Blatter get what Platini/Blatter want.

Technically, Naughton isn't signed, but I would be hugely suprised if Everton/Blades informed the media without there being real substance to it. I reckon Anichebe may be part of that deal....big kick in the teeth for Blades city rivals!

It's unworkable because it's against EU law. Most of the groundwork was done by Bosman and Kolpak, and given that it wouldn't be nearly as difficult to prove the suggested rules are illegal.

If the new rules are introduced and are illegal, any player who suffers financial penalty (such as, for example, all the non-English players who are currently on huge wages in the Premier League but who would be surplus under the new rules, or any EU player who can reasonably show that Premier League clubs would have been interested under the old rules but not under the new) could sue the governing bodies (the FA and UEFA) to reclaim their losses.

There is absolutely no way that UEFA are going to take a punt and introduce the rules that may or may not be illegal, because their exposure if they are wrong probably runs over £1bn. They are trying to negotiate a special cutout for football, but there's no obvious reason why EU legislators would want to introduce such rules. The power of Blatter/Platini certainly don't extend that far, so it's got nothing to do with "what they want they get".

And the rules don't just extend to EU countries, but also to countries which have trading agreements with the EU, which is a lot of them.

It doesnt matter anymore, Platnini has now got his wish. La Liga is now the "biggest" league in the world. I bet he doesnt whine about it anymore, hes happy now.

Lets not count our chickens. Until a signature is on the contract they are not Everton players even if a transfer fee has been agreed.

Fair enough......still think the policy of buying youngsters is good though(y)
