Motown

So I've started to really love Motown music.

It's ace.

Can anyone reach me all about it rather than me doing all the research myself?

My fave song so far is Tracks Of My Tears by Smokey Robinson. As featured here in Platoon:

Any other fans of Motown on GOT?

Motown was originally a record label owned by Berry Gordy. They wrote loads of songs and got artists to do covers. Some ended up being classics that were actually recorded by others as well but one persons version became popular, then classic.

Faves would include middle-period temptations, especially Papa was a Rollin' Stone, and Undisputed Truth who released on Jobete iirc, a subsid. Label.

I flew to Australia for £306 which in December is like giving the goddam thing away, only stipulation was I had to stay 2 nights in Detroit, tbh I didn't think it all that bad but didn't go Downtown, if I'd known it was SO deserted I would've. Although folk say it's dangerous I find that if you show no nerves then you are fine, my 1st day away and I'm confronted by a crack dealing pimp in the Street, soon enough I was having a good old chinwag with him while we both smoked a No.1, he was made up that he was havin a ciggie that had 'By Royal Appointment' on the pack "daaaaaaaaaaaaaaam mu'fka I aint haaaad One of the Queen of Englands smokes before."
I left the guy and for about 200 yds was dreading looking over my shoulder for fear of him having me in crosshairs, when I did he was still examining the smoke I left with him (probably has it framed) and shaking his head, I passed him on the bus and hung out the window whilst we exchanged salutations.
At the bus stop though cars were slowing as they passed with folk pointing at the only Honky in that part of town.

Told the guy on reception in the Hotel and his verdict that I was plumb crazy to go where I did.

Like I say though the Karaoke in the hotel was the most serious on the planet, they'd travelled for miles and miles apparently to compete, I just got slaughtered and everyone thought 'The English Guy' was ace and gave me more beer.

If you go to Detroit 1st though it's all good from then on.

I grew up listening to a lot of Motown. Loved its unique sound ever since I heard the first few notes of "Baby Love" and miss Ross's intoxicatingly naselly vocals spearheading that glorious chorus line..."Ooow-o-ooohh.."
