Cleverley is being wasted. Needs to be in the middle and see what he has to offer. Barry showing glimpses, but has had his day and should move aside now. Stones is going to be missed badly and with Jags maybe a couple of years left we need new long term cover urgently! Coleman was good and can be better. Ross was energetic and loked interested the whole game. Kone was back to the familiar Kone. Rom was never in the game enough due to the tactics, again. Tim was Tim. Teams need a keeper worth ten points a season? Some say our Tim costs us ten points a season. Yes, he will have good games, but they are far and few between it seems. Thought the lads did ok, but stiffled by the 'plan'. We are not getting the best from our players. None were really bad, but never good enough, did enough if they wanted to win this one. Mostly 7's.

Coleman was caught up the field for the first goal, if he'd been back there he might have closed Kolarov down a bit better than Cleverly did. Not really his fault though, and after that goal he seemed intent on atoning for it, won us about a dozen corners and ran like a mad man.

It's interesting that without Baines, our right side suddenly seems stronger with Stones, Coleman, McCarthy, and Cleverly.

Still not understanding why folks are trying to shoehorn Cleverley into a DM role.

I wouldn't play that system at home mate. We should be more offensive and play the lads to strengths. All we are currrently doing is playing ultra-defence with 2 DM, thus shoe-horning Cleverly instead as a left side something or other. The lad has bags of energy, potential and talent. We are getting half a game from him. I would lose a DM in home games and give him and Ross more freedom to express themselves.

Think he's been very good in a more advance role out wide.

Martinez rarely has ever played two wingers.

Basically he is replacing Osman from 13/14 at this point.

Howard- could have been beaten by 4 or more without him. Could he have ran towards Kolarov for the first? 7
Coleman- good going both ways. 8 Motm
Jagielka - quiet good. Slipped needlessly twice and got away with it. 6
Stones - very, very good. 7
Galloway 5 - really had a tough examination
Browning - playing out of position and on his wrong side. Roasted. Second goal stood up. His third man tackle on an everton defender was suicide. 4 - being charitable too
Barry - slow but decent. Best of centre mid. Great use of ball. Nearly put us in front. 7
McCarthy - utterly anonymous. Not covering his defence properly. I would put him on the bench for a while and move in Cleverly. - 4
Cleverley - decent. Not a threat from wing, needs to be more central. 6
Kone - decent. Used and moved the ball very well. He was involved in all our best moments 6
Barkley - better than last season not as good as last week. Much improved compared to Jan to may. 6
Lukaku - control when playing back know to goal and passing still sub standard. We need someone central to thread the passes. He is still not been used adequately. 6
Naismith 5 - passing is un curable. Why was Mi rallas not on first
Deulefeu - won't give a mark. Passing and ball control do not look to have improved.
Martinez 3 - we started the second half poorly and he waited too long to change it. Central midfield and particularly McCarthy are not creating spaces and chances for Lukaku. Barry has been the best of our central midfielders. No Mi rallas. Gerry for 5 minutes. More Naismith. Ain't learning.
Which are actually quite important qualities for a tricky winger.

and it is early days. Lad will still be getting used to others style of play and I accept it can take months ;) The big worry for us all is that Southampton is the flash in the pan game.

.....Lukaku getting no votes because he wasn't MoM. Unlike last week he was up against two extremely physical CBs who managed to stop his threat.
cleverley got votes and he wasn't MoM
The point I am making how can you go from such an influential game one week to zero the next. He hadn't when I last looked got one vote, which indicates he was very very poor on the day.
Also please don,t make excuses for the physical CBs he was up against, have you seen the size of Lukaku it is not as if He is of a slight build.

.....I think the quality of the CBs he was up against are most certainly a contributing factor. Add in that City controlled large parts of the game meant Lukaku didn't have the impact he was allowed against weaker opposition. I'm not making excuses for the lad, Aguero was fantastic against Chelsea but was relatively well shackled by Stones and Jagielka.
