Morgan Schneiderlin

I dont think it's a case of either/or develop with potential or buy in experience. You can do both. But we're getting caught between two stools here, imo. We are wasting a hell of a lot of cash on 'proven' players who are not top quality and Davies and Holgate aside (the latter having already been blooded under Martinez) the potential is not being encouraged to come through.

Koeman doesn't stay anywhere more than three seasons on average. I fear that at the end of that period Everton wlll be holding a very expensive set of ageing players who couldn't get us to the next level....apparently you cant state those concerns though because others here are too immature to accept a counter point to their giddiness over cash being spent.
That bit in bold is completely incorrect, Holgate made 0 appearances under Martinez

The thing is, thus far we've bought a lad under 20, and we're linked with Morgan whose 27

Who are all the other late 20's players we're looking at?

Van Dijk is 25, is that too old or is he young enough to buy? I mean, say we're lucky enough to get him for 3-5 years, there's not going to be much sell on is there?

Van Dijk's one big move is now, after that we're only ever going to sell him at a loss if we buy him, but he's in his prime and would improve us massively

I guess I just don't see 27 as being that old

Lukaku is the only Martinez player we will make a profit on.

And that profit will be eaten up by the massive loss on other players.

Martinez destroyed this club, he signed utter tosh for 3 years, going forward Lukaku will be the only player he signed that will get games for us.

All these could be sold...

Lukaku
Galloway
McCarthy
Besic
Mori
Holgate
Deulofeu
Lennon
Tarasaj

£63M paid for those and we'd get that back on Lukaku + McCarthy alone.

Conservatively we'd receive circa £110M for that lot, probably a hell of a lot more given the going rate for halfway decent layers in this madhouse league.

As said: RM's transfer record was very good. I doubt we'll be saying the same for Koeman.

Im not slating Schneiderlin. Schneiderlin for £8M I could get behind. The price quoted is ridiculous. That's all.

In a world where Jordan Ibe costs £15m, we're getting a proven-quality, France international midfielder who was one of the best in the league 18 months ago (under Koeman).

It's a quality addition. £22m is a lot, but we have the money.

It makes me wonder if Walsh is evaluating our own youth system before he plots more bargains. We have had some players (Davies, Holgate, DCL) come into the team so it makes me believe that we have something decent going on. I think we will see some sales of the youth players before we see a mass influx of new young talent. Schneiderlin would be a good medium-term buy; we need more depth in that position.

The really top quality players aren't likely to come here though, so we're shopping one rung down from there. At the same time, we're investing for the future.

Point taken on Koeman's longevity, but very few managers stick around for more than three seasons, so it wouldn't make a lot of difference who was in charge.

Yea, there's a risk involved, but it's not massive, we're not trying to "Do a Leeds", so, even if it fails, we won't be massively worse off than if we'd been more cautious. But, if it succeeds, then it could give us a new, higher base to build from.

Throw away those comfy slippers and have a bit of fun ffs !
