That comes under if a player is affordable.

Agree however if its a quality player I would be dissapointed if we didnt push through a deal.

Think we are at the stage we were under Moyes when you knew we were only 1-2 top signings away from having an actual top side.

We never went and got Negredo that season but I hope its different this time and we actually show desire to become a top 6 side.

Disagree completely.

6th and 7th will both likely get us into the Europa except 7th has the potential to kill your following season with those early rounds.

Would much rather 6th and build upon this season. Its also good to finish 6th to attract players as the "top 6" has actually become a thing now in the media so trying to attract top players will be easier if we finish within that bracket rather than being seen as "7th is as good as it gets for plucky Everton".

We would be fools if we dont bring in a CF in January and deserve everything we get if we have a poor end to the season and the likes of Gomes go elswhere.

Remember a Mr Romelu leaving due to our lack of ambition...

Look where it has got him now!! falling out with Mourinho and hinting at leaving per papers.

Agree, but if we had the Lukaku of Everton we would very well be near if not in the top 4 this season imo as he would have bagged in half the games we have slipped up in against lesser sides.

Need to ensure we dont fall into the trap of thinking 7th is as good as it gets. Nothing stopping us doing a Spurs - good young manager, new stadium plans, good signings at the club, need to keep going and building on this or what is even the point.

Successfully buying players in January is all about a balanced approach: the benefits of what the player will bring to the squad versus their often inflated cost.

A compromise perhaps. For example, you only need to look at last January with our purchase of Tosun for £27m for how purchases can be short-sighted.

While I do feel that Tosun isn't a bad player at all and did score much needed goals last year, he cost a fair wedge and now isn't suited to our system at all.

I could reel off a fair number of other examples where we and other clubs have overspent in January, on relative unknowns, and eventually not got what's required.

So while we really do need a striker, what I think @MarcelsGoat is saying is that we shouldn't buy for the sake of it and ultimately paying well over the odds.

Southampton are going to panic buy him, won’t cost a lot and it’s a club legend (imagine this bloke being regarded as that) that will keep the fans happy. Best for everyone until they go down and he wants out again.

Don't think they'll be able to afford his wages, he's one of our top earners and is on well over £100k a week. Can see him heading off to the East personally for an easy life.

We have hindered ourselves so so badly with these ridiculous contracts on crap players..

Thinking about how much has been totally wasted on complete and utter dross

Snides, sandro, klasssen, bolasie, Williams, tosun, niasse, vlasic (probly on 75k a week) etc

It's monumental wastage.

Think it's harsh to include Tosun in that, he's done well in spots and will possibly be good in the future he's just not the guaranteed 20 goal a season striekr we need.

For me Walsh takes the blame for all those stupid contracts we gave to clearly not good enough players. Koeman nor Moshiri were involved in contract negotiations, that was all Stevie's responsibility. The damage he did will take years to properly fix. Brands has done brilliantly so far but there's still a lot to go.

Baring in mind they're paying £20m for Danny ings, we shouldn't sell below £20m.
