Money and football

Lad in work is saying if Messi and Ronaldo got offered a ridiculous amount per week in Russia/France they wouldn't go because they are too 'loyal'.

Ridiculous amount I am talking 600-800k per week

What do my fellow Evertonians think?
Do you think the prem will ever put caps on wages? I heard something like this was happening but it went quiet

The money in football is ridiculous but we're willing to put up with it.

Players are in a dangerous spiral where Financial Rewards will ultimately outweigh Brand Value.

Just wait till they decide to go on Strike.

I'd go anywhere for that money to be honest.

In current circumstances I agree, but if you already had money it may be different.
If you're getting millions a year in various sponsership deals and then earning saying 200+k a week, would you leave what you did and go somewhere else if offered 250k a week? Would it really matter enough to risk what you have?
Would Messi be world player of the year again if he played in J-League or Russia or somewhere with little sky sports coverage?

Very well put.

If I was say Ronaldo, on alike £200k a week at Madrid, and Zenit say offered me £500k a week I wouldn't go I don't think.

Do you think there's a point where a player isn't that bothere dby how much money they earn?

I find it insane that a player like Big Vic (no offence to vic fans) is probably on £30k a week. It's mental isn't it?

I don't think I could spend that much money. I'd have a bloody good go, but it would be tough.

I can remember having a conversation with a mate of mine and I asked how much money he would spend on a watch if he was on 100k a week.
His answer was around £50

Those sorts of sponsorship deals likely wouldn't exist if he's playing in Dagestan or whatever outpost you can come up with.

Loyalty has nothing to do with it, my argument would be that Ronaldo and Messi make so much money now they get to choose where they live regardless of the salary offered, and they'd rather be in Spain than Dagestan.

And I don't think Ronaldo's ego would allow him to play in Ligue 1.

I hate the money in football now, ruining the sport for the local supporters who know their club will never win stuff due to not having enough money, Football is a business now not a sport. I also hate the way teams can afford two teams and players are happily sit on the bench rather then play every week for less money. I hate the way we might lose Baines due to this.

Do you know Ronaldo well enough to say he has an ego? I doubt it.

Also, at least he isn't getting done for tax evasion.

I think you must have that sort of ego to play at that level. Didn't mean to exclude Messi. I don't see this as a negative in a footballer, generally.
