He should be sacked for that penalty.

Look at the state of this run up for the pen.

Scored it Dave. Plenty else to complain about with him today though. Try again.

The lesson that needs to be learned from DCL is that the club need to buy competent players so we don't have to have non-scoring strikers up front for years on end, finishing in midtable as a result.
Or maybe the lesson is that young players get better and we shouldn't flip out every time they don't look perfect. It could be that. I'm sure that guys like Nkounkou and Gordon will have off days. Hell Richarlison and Dom still had them last year.

I like him, but he’s not enjoying himself, and it shows on the pitch.

I have no ill will towards him whatsoever, but I don’t think it’s going to work out for him here. He’s a young man a long way from home. Maybe he’s not right for Everton and Everton’s not right for him.

or maybe he’s not getting the service, still hasn’t adjusted
And is lacking in confidence

I can't help but feel like we are in the same spot with Kean now that we were with Dom three years ago except that Kean has a semi-respectable goal scoring return (based on minutes played). And yet no lessons seem to have been learned.

I can see the logic, but I'm not sure we are, as there are a lot of difference sbesides their age.

In honesty Calvert-Lewin was very lucky that lots of things happened for him at once. Lukaku leaving, a DOF not getting a replacement in, a manager like Allardyce coming in who liked his style of forward, anotehr big striker Tosun flopping etc. A team that has bombed about in mid table for 3 years That gave him the time and games to eventually kick on.

To his credit, it's clear he has a fantastic work ethic. And was happy to accept being at times a bit part player.

We now start to look a team that could challenge and be in the top 6. I don't think the manager will give endless minutes to Kean, nor do I think he will happily sit on the bench for long periods.

It's a hard situation to manage. The change in formation won't really help Kean either. I think the best we can hope for, is he gets game time in the last 20-30 minutes of games where we are ahead, and thats enough for him and he starts to get more consistent.

I hope it is. I am a fan of his.

This is revisionist history about Dom at least in my experiences on the forum. Yes some people rated him but the prevailing sentiment entering last season was that he was not and never would be good enough.

lol I’ve always backed Dom from the start. Funny you trying to use DCL’s success as justification for kean when last year you were constantly claiming kean was miles better. At least stick to your own narrative. Time to change the posters on your wall it would seem.

I love it when you make out like it’s other people who don’t understand football. Bless you for trying. I don’t mean his movement in the 6 yard box, that isn’t bad, I mean his movement for the other 90 minutes of the game. He’s constantly behind the play, not making the runs that create space and never knowing whether to drop off or go in behind. It’s like playing centre forward by numbers. He’s a talented lad clearly, but he won’t make it here if he doesn’t improve that aspect of his game tenfold.

As the lone striker you are right, it doesn't work and if that is going to be where we play him then it will likely never work.

However as one of a front two or three who are interchanging all the time, I think how he plays now is so unusual, so counter-intutive that defenders do not know where to go and he gets chances as a result of it. There was a really good example of that in the last Italy game, where you could see the Dutch defender waiting ages for him to make a run, panic and then try to mark where he thought Kean would go.

After the rocky end to last season I think Dom's leash should be fairly short. Obviously he scored Sunday so he's going to have the next 3-5 games but if he isn't sitting on 3 or 4 goals at the end of that I'd be prepared to start Kean and/or move Richarlison central and start Gordon.
