2019/20 Moise Kean

All fans at all clubs will forgive a player virtually anything if they're producing the goods. Fans will blindly defend players who've done really terrible things as long as they score goals or win games for their team. When you've massively underwhelmed though, fans will very quickly tire of what they see as bad behaviour. I'm not saying that's how it should be, but it's how it is.

I think we need to see the bigger picture here though. He was very highly rated and is 20. To be blunt, the clubs re-opening training facilities have committed a far bigger breach than him.

He is an outstanding young prospect and we would be stupid to move him on.

Oh definitely, I would only look to offload a player for their off field activities if they were affecting their performances personally. Much as i'd like all our players to share the same beliefs and values as me, that's not realistic and the chances are I would hate half of them if I spent any time with them. I came to terms with that as a kid so it really doesn't bother me how they behave in their private lives to be honest. I just mean in terms of getting support from fans. If you're not producing the goods and seem a bit of a bell, there's not a lot to get behind and it's easy for people to turn on you.

Yes I agree. I think my point with Moise Kean is we have given him a year to settle, get used to the league, the city etc and it would be a bit pointless to move him on at this point, especially in a depressed market. I also think, and I've said this a fair bit, we can't keep signing forward for £25m+ not see them succeed for 6 months then discarding them to sign the next shiny thing. As a club we can't afford to do that. Part of the reasoning to sign Kean was that he is a long term choice, unlike say Tosun who was an immediate expected to deliver immediately. While he has underwhelmed, I don't think he is that bad and has shown some promise. We have to hope he can build upon that.

We have a good man manager at the helm, and a fellow Italian so I trust him to get Kean right.

Exactly correct. Its up to him though to knuckle down and make it happen. He couldn't be under a better boss to do that. Footballers can hit that crossroads early on in their careers now due to agents and the globalisation of the game.

He apparently has a dissenting opinion on the seriousness of this and is young enough to not worry about the shaming that he is getting. Quite frankly I am with him on this although we aren't allowed to have that opinion, are we?

I thought him a risk from a sample size stsndpoint when he first came over, but you could see the improvement toward the end of the year...I think he will come good.

and as someone mentioned a lot will be forgiven if he does

Hope he enjoys a fulfilling career.
It won't be here and it probably won't be as a striker, given that he can't score goals.
Party organiser maybe?

I think that's it. I see Liverpool fans, and they are very good at this. They deal with the issue and then move on. They don't get to bogged down in it. I know it sounds harsh, but it's the sort of pragmatism that winners show. Same with United under Ferguson, he would move on from all sorts of things if the player was worth it.

I saw a video stating we paid what we did, at the end of the window because he had 1 year left and Juventus were desperate. I suspect it would have been £50+m had he had say 3 years left. Maybe more. So essentially we have a valuable asset who has lost some value this season.

Hes underwhelmed this season. However I'm a bit old fashioned and think you need to give a new player a season to settle. Maybe that quiet first season will be the best thing that happens for him?

Only if said player is one of their idols or is doing the bizz though mate.

Really? To me he just looks like a headless chicken with a quite frankly appalling first touch and tendency for Bolasie-like pieces of 'skill' that never come off.

Discipline him and move on like other clubs have done. Hel get goals next year with a run in the team and the knee jerkers will pick on some poor young lad trying to break into the team.

Many people got the call on this lad horrendously wrong. How difficult is it to accept that?

It just hasn’t worked yet, that doesn’t mean it won’t. It’ll be a massive mistake imo if we let him go and he goes on to better things

Where the problems lie is far too many wrote him off before he even made an appearance based on the transfer negotiations and wouldn’t back down from it

I didn't. I supported his arrival and thought he may do well. So I'm one of those who got the call horrendously wrong...but I wont cling to that position when it''s obvious its been a disaster.

I don't remember people writing him off? If anything i'd say he was the most widely accepted signing we'd made since Lukaku, people were made up with it, me included. He could well go on to be a great signing, it's far from beyond the realms of possibility. Dave's right though, people - again, me included - were way off with what we expected. Nobody can hand on heart say they thought this season would go as badly for him as it has.

I’ll readily admit that I thought he’d have more goals by now but no one expected him to be utterly wasted by Silva for the first half of the season

It was more people questioning why Juve were willing to let him go so easily rather than giving the club credit for pulling off a coup, not necessarily on here but in other places

Ancelotti having really made the most of him yeah? In the 11 games under Ancelotti he's played more than 15 minutes 6 times. In the 5 games since he finally broke his duck and got some confidence, he's played a cumulative 73 minutes. Blame Silva for all his woes if it makes you feel better, but the evidence doesn't support it.
